Rapper Clifford "T.I." Harris is working on a new studio album while under house arrest on pending gun charges, EW has exclusively learned.
A representative for the Grammy-winning artist, 27, says he has already completed six new tracks in a studio inside his Georgia home. T.I. hopes to release the disc, which he's calling Paper Trail, in September 2008. The album's title refers to the fact that T.I. is writing his new lyrics down — a practice he abandoned after his 2001 debut, I'm Serious. Each of his four subsequent albums, including this year's T.I. vs. T.I.P., was composed without the aid of pen or paper. "He wanted to take more time to really put something down [this time]," explains his rep.
T.I. was arrested last month in Atlanta after allegedly trying to purchase several unregistered machine guns and silencers. (A federal search of his home also allegedly turned up other firearms, which the law prohibits him from owning as a previously convicted felon.) The terms of his bail currently require him to remain inside his house at all times while awaiting trial, and strictly limit the number of guests who can visit him; this week, his attorneys withdrew their request to allow additional guests for a family meal on Thanksgiving.

Saigon's Album Pushed Back!

Well, no Greatest Story Never Told this year, but the ball is rolling nonetheless. Saigon tells us that his December 4 release date has been pushed back to early 2008.
"Everybody is fighting for that date," he revealed. "It's nothing to wait another month or month and a half. ... I'd rather wait for the new year than get caught up in that fourth-quarter congestion. It's good. It's definitely coming through. It won't be another six months or five months. It's coming real soon."

Damn with the new video out and remix with Jay-Z, he's sure to lose any publicity he just gained...what a shame

Jay-Z's projected sales

11/12/07 - Update: Jay-Z's "American Gangster" Projected To Sell Over 400,000 Units
Jay-Z's tenth studio album, American Gangster, is projected to sell between 425-450,000 in first week sales.
According to Hits Daily Double, American Gangster is on track to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 this week, selling between 425,000 to 450,000 units and officially tying with Elvis Presley for second place among artists with the most No. 1 albums. Last year Hov's highly publicized comeback album, Kingdom Come, which also came out in November, sold 680,000 copies.
Jay's American Gangster was inspired by the Ridley Scott's film of the same name, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe and based on the life of heroin kingpin Frank Lucas. Considered to be his first conceptual album, American Gangster is Jay-Z's rendering of the rise and fall of a hustler.
In related news, this weekend SIRIUS Satellite Radio closed out a week of programming dedicated to Jigga by broadcasting an exclusive concert performance from his five-city tour.
As SOHH previously reported, Hov took over hosting duties at SIRIUS' "Hip-Hop Nation" last week, rechristening it "JAY-Z Nation."
On Saturday (November 10), the station aired a live recording of Jay-Z's House of Blues concert in Chicago. The concert featured guest appearances by Kanye West, Freeway and Beanie Sigel.
SIRIUS also repeated the concert broadcast yesterday (November 11) at 8 p.m.
I basically reported the same thing last week, but SOHH did a formal write up on it today...Is the album gonna go platinum? What single will push it to that status?

Xzibit in New Oliver Stone Movie

Rapper and Actor Xzibit will join the cast of Oliver Stone's next movie Pinkville. The project is a drama based on the Vietnamese My Lai Massacre of 1968. Over 300 people, a majority of which were unarmed women and children, were murdered during the incident, and Xzibit will portray an American soldier who believes he carried out his orders in a moral way.
"These execs and studios started offering film roles to me, and I only take the ones that I thought were going to be beneficial," says Xzibit exclusively to HipHopDX. "XXX: State of the Union was attractive because of Samuel L. Jackson and the fact that I got to work with one of my icons, Ice Cube. It was an action movie, and every n***a wants to blow some shit up. In Derailed I got to smack around Jennifer Aniston with a Desert Eagle and I got a check. Church!"
Although his stint as the host of MTV's Pimp My Ride is coming to an end, X made it clear that he has no plans to quit acting. "These are things that not only boost the profile, but also show the versatility of what I can do in front of the camera," he says. "The transition feels natural for me. It's not hard for me to memorize lines [and] I feel the emotion. I feel the characters. I've got a lot of respect for the craft and I read a lot, so I know what to look for."
Oliver Stone's previous credits include Wall Street, Platoon, JFK and Natural Born Killers. Pinkville will begin production in 2008 and features Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson and Channing Tatum. After finishing a European tour, Xzibit is currently shooting American Inquisition with Alfre Woodard, Anthony Mackie, Charles Dutton and Tim Blake Nelson.

Young Buck says album will be better than Kanye's

Young Buck is definitely all in with the G-Unit. He's been working on their December release, Shoot to Kill, but Mr. Ten-A-Key is also working on his own compilation — Young Buck Presents: Product of the South.
"I'm establishing me right now," he said of his Cashville Records. "I signed C-Bo from the West Coast, as well as my own group, 615 — that's me, a cat by the name Lil' Murder and High-C. I said, 'I'll drop a [compilation] album.' ... That'll be the bridge to their project. Everybody is going to get a single and a video."
Buck's label is independent. "I'm sure you know these labels ain't really giving a lot of money out to start a situation," he explained. "What I did was create my own buzz pretty much promoting G-Unit South. I wanted to name my label G-Unit South, but I knew [Interscope Records Chairman] Jimmy [Iovine] wasn't going to let any other label have the luxury of having the name G-Unit. ... [So] I wanted to start something fresh, brand new, create a whole new brand."
Buck released "Driving Down the Freeway" with the Outlawz and says he's actually picking up jewels from them.
"It's an even thing," he said. "It's more me being quiet and learning off of them sometimes. It's things in the game they been through and I haven't learned yet. It's a learning process. They bring a lot to the table on their own. I'm just pretty much bringing their career more to the forefront. I feel that the Outlawz as well as C-Bo never got their just due."
The unabashed Southerner feels the same way about himself. "I ain't get what I deserved at Interscope," he said. "I feel my album [Buck the World] is better than Kanye's album and 50's album, but it's one of the most slept-on albums due to whatever reason. I'm still trying to get what I deserve off of Interscope, so it's still a hustle to me."
Buck noted that he and 50 are on great terms, and when and if 50 leaves the 'Scope for free agency, Buck and the rest of G-Unit will be with him.
"All of us are signed to G-Unit," Buck said. "If 50 goes, we all go. I stand behind Interscope with all the power I can. I'm sure there's a lot of people that put in as much work as they could for Young Buck and the G-Unit crew, but it's a lot of people that won't too. At the end of the day, I can only speak specifically on mine. As far as the marketing, I don't think they knew how to market a project such as mine. When you have a song like 'Get Buck' and 'You Ain't Going Nowhere,' there's no lane. You can't just market me to the South. I'm worldwide. I come with the Southern background but worldwide flow. They have to understand how big I aim outside of 50 Cent to get the push from them. I'm still in the shadow of 50 to them, but to the streets, I'm Young Buck. I'm my own person. I just gotta get my label to understand that part."
Now to the scandalous: Everyone is quiet familiar with 50's line in "Fully Loaded Clip," in which he raps, "When Trina was telling [Lil] Wayne, 'I love you, boo'/ She was running games, she told Buck that too." Buck insists it's all gospel.
"It's the truth, it's the f---ing truth! 50 is not f---ing lying," Buck proclaimed. "You want me to tell you the truth? I'mma tell you the truth. I was messing with her while she was messing with [Wayne]. I would hear him on the phone [in the background] every now and then while she's laying right there. She knows it. 50 ain't doing nothing but speaking the truth."
So what about Lil' Kim? There is Internet footage of the Queen Bee grinding all over Young Buck onstage, then she has miraculously mended all beef with 50.
"She's cool," he downplayed, all of a sudden getting shy. "She came out onstage, hollered a couple of times. At the end of day, she's doing her, and I'm doing me. ... Ask Lil' Kim what she thinks of Young Buck. What do I think of Lil' Kim? She's cool."
He says the same about Byrd Gang leader Jim Jones. The two of them are cool in a way different way from him and Kim, of course, but cool nonetheless.
"I never had a problem with Jim Jones," Buck said. "Jim Jones visited my city a long time ago and saw what type of individual I was. That was the bridge for 50 Cent to even say, 'OK, I'mma see what's up with Jim.' Me and Jim was on the same page. Jim is about getting his paper, that's what it really is about. It's all about keeping it real too. That was my issue with Lil Wayne and all them: Keep it real with the real n---as. You come around stealing our swagger. What y'all see, the bling-bling and all that, they stole all that from Cashville. It's hard for me to explain all this sh-- because they know what the truth is. It'll get more interesting as it goes." ...

SOMEONE PLEASE SHIP ME WHAT THIS GUY IS SMOKING! Are you kidding me? Buck the World is better then Graduation? Better then Curtis? They are not even in the same country let alone zip code!
The album is better then Yayo's solo, better then Mobb Deep - Blood Money, and better then both Lloyd Banks albums. It's not better then any 50 solo album and not close to Game's Documentary.
I don't understand why rappers from the South think they are better then they truly are. Lil Wayne is the same way. It's ignorant! Clear as day - ignorance! Comments like this show me exactly why I'm justified in hating on the South.
American Gangster will be a plantium album. Not sure there really is a radio single on there like a Big Pimpin that pushes it to that level
It gets there because it's simply a great album.
american gangster will be the single that pushes it to platinum status...and young buck is on that blue magic to think he's gonna outsell kanye and 50.
I kno jay-z is going to go platinum...his name alone will get him there...plus his album is straight crack..One reason his numbers are lil low is because the album wasn't promoted like kingdom come was...Jay-Z fans were ready for some more jay music after the black album but most were disappointed by kingdom come..I like kingdom come myself but American Gangster should of been his comeback album seriously....Another reason why its low is because right now we are in the computer world where we can get anything from sitting in our computer rooms with ease....I admit i downloaded American Gangster From here but i also cop the real CD Also to support.
We in a world of young buckz who just don't kno wat real music is but kno how to superman that ho.....
Hey, how ya doin?... I like to request a couple of Lil Wayne mixtapes.
Da Drought (The very first one)
Da Drought 2
The Suffix
The Carter 2.7
Please. It would be much appreciated
thedaddy...an opinion cannot be ignorant because that is that person's individual opinion and therefore a fact...i aint even heard all of buck the world so i aint gonna comment...but i have all 100+ songs that wayne has released since nov 12 06...and aint nobody comin with so much solid material like him so thats why he is the best
Hey,.. Same dude with the weezy mixtapes... Can you add "The Suffix" to the list... Please... Much appreciated
Hey,.. Same dude with the weezy mixtapes... Can you add "The Suffix" to the list... Please... Much appreciated
I didn't get that Jay cd yet, but I surely will to show my support. Not really into those shoes. Xzibit sucks as a human. I really just don't like him. I really hate Young Buck. He is garbage. Dude need to stop rapping as soon as possible and I think 50 ahould tell him to stfu. Thanks for the new songs. Didn't like any though. Keep up the good work.
n.o. 4 life:
"An opinion cannot be ignorant because that is that person's individual opinion and therefore a fact"
That has to be the most uneducated rebuttal I've ever heard. You make 0 sense. Do you even know what it means to be ignorant? Look it up! Your response is ignorant.
Having an opinion doesn't make the opinion factual.
FACT: Statement of actuality or occurrence. A fact is based on direct evidence, actual experience, or observation.
OPINION: Statement of belief or feeling. It shows one's feelings about a subject. Solid opinions, while based on facts, are someone's views on a subject and not facts themselves.
"ain't nobody comin with so much solid material like him so thats why he is the best" - your statement is an OPINION. My opinion is Lil Wayne is DOGSH!T. The FACT is he doesn't have ONE CLASSIC album or CLASSIC single for that matter - as justified as factual by the industry leaders.
If your going to post a response at least be educated enough to have a leg to stand on.
Saigon keeps getting jerked. Who is he afraid of? Wu, Ghost, Nelly, Lupe?
If his album was as good as he said it is - the date would have stuck.
That's unfortunate as I was looking forward to that album as much if not more then any others still coming out this year.
Buck so pressed over lil wayne. Lil wayne kissed another man u cant damage it any further. Hes the best. Smart choice for buck to go indie.
Even though Im originally from the south i dont like MOST of the garbage that has been coming out of it recently. With the whole lil wayne argument, he IS NOT the best rapper alive but he is the hottest in terms of keeping "consistent" music pumping out every other week. Lyrically we all know that jay, nas, em, ludacris, royce, scarface, joe budden, saigon, etc etc etc are all better than him, however he has been in the public's eye so much that it is hard to not at least acknowledge that he is hot right now. whether or not you like his music is a whole other topic. he can be good on some songs and terrible on some. he is human afterall.
in regards to young buck, someone please explain to me how a tupac wannabe thinks his album is better than Graduation????!!!! his first album was good but simply because of the beats. the guy CANNOT rap AT ALL. if someone can please leave a memorable young buck quotable on the blog it would be greatly appreciated (rhetorical sarcasm). Im tired of people comparing themselves to kanye when they are just rappers and he not only raps (better than most of these idiots) but also PRODUCES his music. He is much more talented than most of the cats in the game right now that it's not even funny. I dont care if he's an asshole in his personal life, but in the studio his talent is unquestionable. Sort of like Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson. Dont really care for them off the court, but on it they are BEASTS!
I wanted to request Meth's Alter Ego Remixes please. Thanks. One.
the daddy.
true, u need to know wut ur talkin about, when stating ur opinion.
also you need/should have a lttle backround knowledge of something in order to have an opinion about it.
lil weezy IS a really gifted artist.
The best? no. My opinion: Papoose, hands down.
but saying someones garbage for the lack of promotional resources is not very logical.
you also got to define what a "classic album/single" is. if ur talkin music video, wuts the diff.?
m.v's dont change the song. and i would like to know if u have actually listned to a weezy album all the way through. he's not bad.
^ p.s
-young buck does need to learn and stand on his own 2 feet. g-unit has been dead for a while, i dont know why they're still tryin.
-xibit never was a "real" good rapper.
-those dunks are sick as hell.
-personally, yeah, "american
gangster" is way better than "kingdom come" but i dont think there is any chance he'll go platinum. when's the last time someone did.
- siagon has nothing to worry about, if his album is as good as he's been boasting.
-im gonna cop that "xxl"
-im hella waiting on that new t.i
ohh my baby weezy was lookin real sexy i hope they choose the one where he standing up. Yea im a have to cop bout 3 of them.
im not that big a fan of wayne...but i respect his grind
I think he needs to get to the point where he is selective with his features and tracks that he releases, rather than releasing any slurry speached track that comes out of his mouth.
He has potential but shows us that he can be lazy and people will still eat his material up...it's almost like a slap in the face
almost as big a slap in the face as saying "i can sell a mil sayin nothing on a track"
Someone said papoose up there is the best right now...I think he has the deepest and most thought provoking music on the scene right now aside from saigon. Unfortunately, we all know if he ever does drop, he's not going to sell to the general public
the unfortunate truth
saigon wont sell as well...but he just missed his best chance to sell with the release of his video and the support from Jay-Z and heavyweights in the industry...not sure what's going on behind the scenes, but saigon better cook something epic up for next year
buck? I'm not the biggest fan, but you have to admit, he can make a complete song that doesnt involve a dance or a chant of some sort. It wont be "better" than 50 cent or kanye's album, but in the end, it's all opinion anyway...but to some it may be...so debate away
anonymous-
Lil Weezy is a really gifted artist is your opinion. Define gifted for me please! Kanye West in my opinion is gifted. Jay-Z, Dr. Dre gifted. To say Lil Wayne is gifted I don't know if I'd go that far. Certainly more gifted then me. In comparison to others in his line of work - he's a slighty above average dude (my opinion).
I'm not saying Lil Wayne is garbage for lack of promotion. The Smegal looking mutherf*cker is the king of Self-promotion. He's got a nation of high school kids thinking he's Rakim.
Never in my post did I mention a f*ckin music video! What are you talking about? Classic album - Illmatic, The Chronic, Paid In Full, 36 Chambers, Reasonable Doubt..need I say more? Classic song? Paid In Full, Nuthin But A G Thang, Walk This Way a few that come to mind. These are albums/songs that changed the course of hip hop and stand the test of time. Look at ANY top 10, f*ck top 100 list of the greatest albums or songs ANYONE has EVER put together and you won't see 1 thing from Lil Wayne on it. Check the Source who did a top albums deal some time ago. MTV has done albums as well. No hip hop expert puts sh!t from Wayne next to the word classic.
Glenn Big Dog Robinson scored 20 a night during his NBA career. Consistent. Good Player. One of the Greatest? Hall of Famer? NO! Wayne to me is much like a Big Dog. 1 dimensional and consistent at that 1 dimension. Just not an all-time classic player like Jordan or Wilt.
I own the Carter and Carter 2 and have listened to them all the way through. They aren't even in the same world as albums like Straight Outta Compton, Raising Hell, 3 Feet High And Rising - and the classics of the genre.
It's great that JD posts many classic albums from the early and golden age of hip hop in this site. It gives many of you younger then I a chance to learn about the artists and music that paved the way for the jeezy's, t.i.'s, weezy's, and so on...the site helps old timers like me learn about new artists as well...win/win
Thanks for the debate
the daddy i guess you didnt understand what i was trying to say...you say what you want to and have your opinions about things...that means that in your head you belive those opinions are facts...just like you can say wayne has not had a classic single when it is easy to name 3 of them he made this year...gossip,pray to the lord, and trouble...although i listed them and believe they are indeed classic it doesnt mean it is a fact to you although it may be fact in my book it still doesnt make it a fact....so it is impossible for you to say he doesnt have classic song and call it a fact...but as a matter of fact you went agaisnt your own posted definition by saying he doesnt have classics...
AND YES JR IS THE BEST
sorry, i forgot the last time debates had only 2 statements.
now, i dont know how ancient were talkin you are, but "we youngstas" never really listen to industry leaders unless they're talkin numbers. an when i say gifted, i mean there are many aspects about him lyrically that are better than most.
yes, he's hella annoying when he repeats himself, an when he does his little voices, but none the less he did release at least 77 freestyle classics this year. (VIBE mag.)
an lil wayne also being the best rapper alive, according to mtv.
(unless they're not experts in ur book)
an when i said music vids, those are singles. "fireman" was one of his first "singles" that got me rethinkin my opinion about him.
"stuntun like my daddy","leather so soft","husters ambition", "neck of the woods", "shooter","you aint know" an a throw back "go dj" are a few other singles that come to mind.
an when it comes to albums, nowa days honestly, who listens to an album all the way through, when we've all heard the same tracks in singles for the past 3 to 4 monthes. but if you take a small look, you can see how many mixtapes he's done. ofcoarse they're not all his, but most are fresh new tracks he's recently recorded.
so when ur talkin about "changin the coarse of hip-hop", you need a wider point of view.
if you ask a white person out of no where, a rap song he(or she) knows, chances are they'll tell ya "soulja boy - crank dat" now soulja boy is doin his thing, but he's not a gifted artist at all in my books.
but lil weezy on the other hand, he'll give ya a few mixtapes of freestyles. because thats pretty much where hip-hop stands rite now.
so i agree w/ you, most people ride weezys dick all day, i dont,
but he is uncontroversially one of the best rappers alive rite now.
thanx for lettin me get that out
jd,
in regards to what you said about young buck being able to make a good song, you may be right about that in some sort of way but even then it is only sometimes. i think that rick ross and young jeezy pretty much have that portion of the game on lock for now (see mediocre lyricist + amazing beats + catchy bridge and hook = great complete song)
I agree with you about Saigon. I was so disappointed when i read the article you posted above about his album being pushed back. i swear this has been the most anticipated album of all time for as long as i can remember (well at least in my book)! Sadly in this era today we all know that he probably wont sell and this was his one and only chance to make any type of dent in the game. Nevertheless i will still support him because he really is one of the most slept on artists of all time.
And as far as Papoose goes, well i used to be a fan of his but not really anymore. he can rap his ass off yes, but he is TERRIBLE at putting songs together. His lyrics are also sometimes terrible. yes he can come up with some very thought provoking rhymes sometimes, but he can also drop some duds as well. he also needs to be more versatile as far as being able to change his style up. he struggles too much with trying to keep up with the beat sometimes (see Victory 2007....even though the song is crazy!)
i think that the best pound for pound YOUNG lyricists in the game hands down are Saigon, Lupe, Joe Budden, Stimuli, Royce 5'9, and Mickey Factz. Notice lil wayne is NOT in this list. I think Jay-z said it best when describing lil wayne when he said that "it isnt what he says, but HOW he says it, that actually makes him hot". The boy is nice but LYRICALLY, i dont think that there's anyone in the game that can mess with these young cats above. Of course there are veterans like jay, nas, em, beans, luda, jada, face, etc etc, but no one that is new and YOUNG can keep up with the wordplay, style, lyricism, and ORIGINALITY of these cats. if the brainwashed masses decided to start listening the WORDS instead of only the beats, then these guys would truly be the wave of the future.
@ the daddy how can u say kanye west is better than lil wayne. Lil wayne is killing it. He is one of the best. And u kno damn well u aint listen to the carter or carter and probably not any of of his mixtapes. Just songs. Cuz if u did ud realize hes one of the bests. He has never had any big singles alone. His career blew up from mixtapes and word of mouth. He loves music he makes so much of it. Stop comparing the old school to the new school. U dont like him cuz everyone else does.
What I said if you could comprehend is that Kayne West is more talented then lil Wayne. Do I need to lay out why? (rapper, super-producer, HUGE albums, HUGE singles).
Just because you spit a few hot lines on some mixtapes and guest apperances doesn't make you the king. I respect his grind in how he keeps putting out music and how he's Don King'd himself into having everyone thinking he's the hottest MC in the game right now.
Again - I ask - where is his CLASSIC album? Where is his CLASSIC single? Having consistently average to above average work doesn't make you a GOD in the rap game. Sorry. The guy isn't Rakim. Half of you probably don't know who Rakim is. That's sad.
If the Carter 3 comes out and is on par with Illmatic, Cuban Linx, Ready to Die, Me Against the World -- and so forth -- I'll take back every negative thing I've said about the guy.
What's Hapnin! I'd Like to request a Song.
Usher Feat. Big Boi "U Got It Bad" (Stankonia Remix)
I think its an extra in one of his 8701 album imports. I've looked everywhere. Can You help me out? Preciate It.
