Well, the video says it all. DMX will always be one of my favorite emcees. He is the reason why i rock timbs still to this day. I hope he gets right...we need that passion back in the game.

NY Oil-Father (prod. by Green Lantern)

NY Oil - Father

Bonus: Straight from NYOil's myspace page:

So I have this song right.. it's Called "Father" I originally did it for the "Barack Obama" mix CD hosted by Green Lantern. It celebrates and speaks from my experiences as a father to fathers worldwide. I'd like to share this experience with you and I'd like you to be apart of this experience.

So to this ends I'm putting together a video for this song similar to the one I did for "You're a Queen!?!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDhhSjRbwe4 and I'm asking for all my Fathers, Sons and Brothers to send in their pictures of themselves and their kids or fathers to this email addy qpapparel@gmail.com

Let's celebrate Fatherhood together..

My name is NYOIL and I approve this message!!

You gotta respect this!

Peace,

Clif Soulo

GLC - Flight School ft. Kanye & T-Pain (Snippet)

Unfortunately, this is only a snippet. Sounds like it's a great song though. Nice to see that Kanye is really trying to push GLC. I'll let Andrew from FSD explain the track:

It's hard to keep something so hot under wraps for too long, I guess. I'm not sure how the Perajok blog got their hands on this, but it's not the whole thing - only a :10 snippet. The track is a certified banger though, and those who attended GLC's mixtape release party where treated to hearing the song in its entirety. Arrowstar (an originally member of the Go-Getter's and the man behind "Honor Me") produced the track, and absolutely killed it. I know it's too short to really get a grasp, but I'm telling you, it's crazy.

Redman - Lay You Out

It's been a while since I've heard some new Redman. This joint is off of the upcoming Street Fighter HD Underground Remix mixtape, which is commemorating the re-release of Street Fighter 2 (I always liked Mortal Kombat bettter when I was younger). This is a cool joint, but I'm looking forward to Meth and Red reuniting soon! Props to 2DB.

Hip Hop Network?

I'm looking forward to this, if it comes to fruition. I've always wondered why their wasn't an actual "hip hop" network, being that other genres of music have their own networks (such as Country Music Television). This would be great for hip hop, seeing how I'm sure that KRS-ONE and Kid Capri will provide the balance that they speak of.  Because as of now BET serves as the only representation of hip hop to mainstream America, and they only provide one side of the spectrum.  Let's see how this turns out...

Common - What A World ft. Chester French

I guess it's safe to say that Com's new album has leaked. Now that a good majority of the tracks have come out, what do you all think? Has Common gone to far left for you all? Personally I like the sound and I can apprceciate the fact that he's trying something new this late in his career. He can really do no wrong in my book. Not many emcees have a better catalog then Common (honestly can you name someone who does?). Who's buying Universal Mind Control December 9th?

Shawty Lo responds...

smh, i (Clif Soulo) think Shawty Lo really doesn't get it. This alleged "beef" was stupid to begin with, T.I. shut it down with that "Whaddup, What's haapnin" video, just move on, make some good music, because this "beef" route won't be working anymore (thank god!)

The Friday Hip Hop Report (Nov. 28th)

Serius Jones - Serius Bizness (Mixtape)

HHDX's 4th Annual Turkey Awards

These are usually pretty funny. HHDX states:

The Turkey Award for "This is Too Inappropriate for Words"… Goes to R. Kelly for hopping on the "If I Were a Boy" remix. If you were a boy...you'd have no problem banging out teenage chicks? We're just saying.

The Turkey Award for "WWE Smackdown"…Yung Berg. That Detroit beatdown/chain yapping, followed by another chin check from Maino, makes Berg the number one contender...for a two piece.

The Turkey Award for "Off-Duty Officer Award"...goes to Rick Ross. There were three fights at the Dirty Awards. You could've at least pulled out your badge and made yourself useful.

The Turkey Award for "Look, I've Got Chin Pubes"…Lil Bow Wow. Cameos with Jenaveve Jolie on Entourage? Allegedly knocking up Superhead? It's time to talk with our little man about the birds and the bees.

The Turkey Award for “Rapper Hit Hardest By The Recession”… Memphis Bleek. Shampoo commercials, really?

The Turkey Award for “Why Can't We Make Hits Anymore?”…A tie between 50 Cent and Scott Storch. The candy shop is closed.

I Didn't Do It, The Liquor Did!

According to FOXNEWS:

MINNEAPOLIS—According to Des Moines Register.com, the Carroll, Iowa woman who was caught having sex in the Metrodome bathroom on Saturday, says she’s had so much wine, that she does not remember walking into the men’s restroom.

Lois Feldman, 38, also claims not to have remembered the man she had sex with in the stall or when the police opened the door.

According to a police report, a Metrodome security officer saw two people having sex in a handicapped stall after noticing two sets of feet with underwear dropped to the ground.

A group of 15 onlookers were gawking at the scene by the time officers broke the couple up and wrote them misdemeanor citations.

Feldman, was turned over to her husband. Ross Walsh, 26, of Linden, Iowa was turned over to his girlfriend.

"It's ruined my life," she said through tears today. "Not just the incident but the press." Feldman, a married mother of three, said she was fired this morning from an assisted living center, where she had been an administrator.

Feldman told Register.com that her husband, Kelly, has been supportive. She said he faults himself for not going with her when she left her seat to use the restroom before halftime.

"I don't know what happened," Lois Feldman said. "But I don't deny that it did happen because obviously there are police reports."

Police ticketed Feldman and Walsh for indecent conduct Saturday night.

A police report described both Feldman and Walsh as upset, drunk and uncooperative, but campus police released no other details. A deputy police chief did not return telephone calls.

Wow. So fellas/ladies, what would YOU do if this happened to you? Would you be as forgiving as this man was?

Grand Hustle's Account of the fight

Big Kuntry King's account:

Alfamega's account:

Damn, Big Kuntry King sound like this bullish might get serious. I really and truly hope not, because it's really not needed. Well, i don't know, in my (Clif Soulo) opinion, i don't think it needs to come to real violence. But this is Hip Hop, and it's grown men, and when you have that combination, it seems very hard for people to just sit down and talk it out.

Expect to hear Shawty Lo and his crew with their version of what happened very soon...

Surprissssssssse! Aubrey O'Day Doing Playboy?

So she went from this:
To this:
So obviously the next step in her career is getting a milli for doing Playboy. It only makes sense (cents). Here's what TMZ reports:

Aubrey O'Day has gone from wearing skankerrific clothes to get attention ... to not wearing clothes at all to get attention.

TMZ spies say the Danity Kane has-been spent all day at a Manhattan photo studio doing a spread for Playboy, and we're told hotshot photog Markus Klinko was the guy who had to look at her naked body all day through the lens.

We're hearing there may be cats involved in the shoot -- meaning actual lion cubs, not what you're thinking.

Does anybody really care? I dunno. It was bound to happen.

Man Guilty in Murder of T.I.'s Assistant

A Hamilton County jury has reached a guilty verdict for the man accused of shooting Rapper T.I.'s personal assistant to death in 2006.

The verdict for Hosea Thomas was read in court at 2:45 this afternoon. He was found guilty of murder. The jury also found Thomas guilty of felonious assault and having weapons under a disability.

Thomas was charged with shooting Philant Johnson to death during a gun battle in May of 2006. T.I. was in town for a concert the night of the shooting.

A fight at an after-party at the Club Ritz in Roselawn forced his entourage to leave. Last Friday, during testimony, T.I. told the jury his van was followed and shot at several times. The rapper says the shots were meant for him. But Johnson and four others inside the van were hit. Johnson died... the other four members of the entourage survived.

Prosecutors say Hosea's brother Padron was also involved in the shooting. A trial date for Padron has not yet been set.

Hosea Thomas will be sentenced on December 23.

24,652...

...is the amount of records you sale your first week when you're on a major label with a top single that gets played constantly on the radio and on television. 24,652 is the amount of records you sale your first week when your remix has some of biggest names in hip hop. 24,652 is the amount of records you sale your first week when you have an annoying DJ yelling "ACE HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD" on your tracks. 24,652 people. In comparison, Ice Cube sold 70,000 his first week on a independent label, with no radio play and minimal video play. Why do new artist feel the need to sign to major labels? Ace Hood is an all types of debt with that label now and it's likely we won't see a sophomore release for a while. What do you all think? Are major labels not promoting the artist as a person anymore? Are they just signing the wrong people?  What determines if you're gonna buy a album from a relatively new artist, or even an established artist? Speak on it!

Digital Sales > CD's at Atlantic Records

On Tuesday, the Warner Music Group reported that digital revenue for the full fiscal year rose 39 percent, to $639 million, or 18 percent of the company’s total revenue. Over all, the company topped the expectations of Wall Street analysts — who on average were forecasting a small loss, according to Reuters — by reporting a net profit of $6 million in the fourth quarter. Revenue fell 1 percent, to $854 million.

Atlantic, whose artists include the Southern rapper T. I., the rock band Death Cab for Cutie and Kid Rock, appears to be the first of the major labels to claim that most of its revenue is coming from digital sales — and it says it has done so without seeing as steep a decline in compact disc sales as the rest of the industry.

This performance is sharply at odds with the trends in the music industry over all, where data show that sales of compact discs still account for more than two-thirds of music sales. Forrester Research does not expect digital music to reach 50 percent of the overall pie until 2011.

This Is Pretty Sick:

I won't claim that I'm a diehard photographer, but I've been known to capture the moment with my relatively basic digital camera(s). To me, this is just beyond sick. Your average digital camera nowadays is around 7 or 8 megapixels. This bad boy being released is 21 megapixels. Translation? You literally get a high-definition image every time you take a picture. Technology comes at a price, however. Check out the write-up:

Shipments of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II will begin leaving Canon USA's distribution centres en route to U.S. dealers starting November 25, 2008, says Chuck Westfall, Technical Advisor at Canon USA. This should translate into some dealers being able to put cameras into the hands of customers before the end of the week, though shipping times, the speed at which dealers can absorb the arriving stock and the U.S. holiday weekend will all impact when Canon's newest 21.03 million image pixel digital SLR comes available in the U.S. in the days ahead.

As of this writing, we can't confirm if key 5D Mark II accessories are also beginning to ship to retailers tomorrow in the U.S. Earlier this month, however, Westfall had indicated items such as extra Battery Pack LP-E6s, Battery Grip BG-E6, Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E4/E4A and EG-series focusing screens were expected to ship at about the same time as the camera body.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II was announced on September 16, 2008 and has an expected street price of US$2699 in the U.S.

Retailers in Canada were recently informed that they could expect their initial units of the camera beginning the first week of December 2008. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II has an expected street price of CDN$3099.99 in Canada.

Complex Interviews Kid Cudi

Via Complex:

Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no doubt that you’re talking about Kanye West’s latest album 808s & Heartbreak, which hits stores today. The bold auto-tune opus, as always, was created in collaboration with ’Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music family, including it’s newest member, Kid Cudi.

The Cleveland, OH-raised rapper/singer first started buzzing after being groomed by his manager Plain Pat, who also happens to be Kanye’s A&R. And after a few years of underground success with mixtapes and his hit single “Day N Nite,” Cudi’s appearance on 808s & Heartbreak (“Welcome To Heartbreak”) marks his first real exposure to the pop mainstream. While building with Cudi on an upcoming article, we interviewed him about working with Kanye, what he really thinks about the auto-tune and how he got his hands on a pair of Air Yeezys

AllHipHop Interviews Drake

AllHipHop.com: So are you signing with his Young Money imprint?

Drake: I’m not signed to Young Money but I’m definitely Young Money affiliated. Like I said, me and Wayne do a lot of work together and Wayne is going to be executive producing my album.

AllHipHop.com: Jay-Z popularized the trend of not writing any lyrics down. A lot of new rappers have taken that style and ran with it. Do you still put the pen to the pad?

Drake: Actually that’s funny because I have a verse on my album about that. Yeah, a lot of people think it’s cool to say that they don’t even write their stuff or whatever. But there is people that really don’t; I’ve seen Wayne go to the studio and think up his verses line by line. That’s an amazing thing to do but me personally I like to do my research. I like to use words that people wouldn’t normally use. I take my time. I actually write my verses in my BlackBerry so I have quick access to the Internet so I can look up a definition or search quotes. I like to put thought into my verses, not to say everyone else doesn’t. What works for me is being able to see everything laid out.

AllHipHop.com: What do you think will separate you from everyone else from here out?

Drake: I guess this would give away where I’m signing to but when I was sitting with Jimmy Iovine, one of the most important things he said to me was, “You remind me of Eminem because I’m an old white dude but I can still understand [what] you're saying and it’s so clever and I laugh and I chuckle to myself when I understand your punch lines. I can learn those words because you take the right pauses and breathes.” I have a style people can follow and enjoy and at the end of the day, I can spit.

Hip Hop Lost, Again...

According to AllHipHop:

Radio One's fourth annual Dirty Awards ended abruptly this evening when two separate altercations erupted reportedly between rapper Shawty Lo and members of the Grand Hustle camp tonight (November 24).

An eye witness told AllHipHop.com that the tension between the two crews mounted during Shawty Lo's performance, which included a diss version of Grand Hustle artist Yung LA's song "Ain't I."

As Lo performed his version with a chorus "Don't I," an audience member identified by an eyewitness as Capitol recording artist Alfamega, allegedly threw a chair onto the stage.

At that point, witnesses say another artist signed to the T.I.-helmed label stormed the stage, at which point authorities proceeded to break a fight.

T.I. himself took the stage shortly after the fight to accept an award following, a reported private conversation with Shawty-Lo, in which the Grammy Award-winning rapper/actor allegedly insisted once again, that the two end their long-running beef.

He proceeded to denounce the violence and negativity and assured the Dirty Awards audience that he did not condone the fighting.

Shortly thereafter, however, a second fight broke out as T.I. performed his verse from "Ain't I," allegedly substituting some lyrics with verbal jabs at Shawty Lo, with whom he has had an unpleasant relationship throughout the year.

Towards the end of the performance, another member of the Grand Hustle camp allegedly jumped off stage and assaulted a man witnesses said was Shawty Lo's brother.

Police officers then halted the awards show, using pepper spray to end the fight.

While the Dirty Awards audience was immediately evacuated, witnesses say other altercations may have occurred outside of the event.More details as they develop.

Damn, wasn't there a fight at the Ozone Awards in Houston too? Wow, this is just sad. And we wonder why they try to keep most hip hop acts away from mainstream award shows. Who said the south was unified? Ha!

GoWhereHipHop Intv's Chamillionaire

The GoWhereHipHop crew got a chance to speak with Chamillionaire recently about everything from Mixtape Messiah 5 to Lupe Fiasco to Venom to Barack Obama. Check out some highlights and then hit the link for the full interview.

Here are some Chamillionaire quotes from the Intv:

"I plan to actually drop another Mixtape Messiah before Venom even drops."

"I have an unreleased Pimp C song on my album. He actually produced it too. That is really jammin'. And I have a song with Good Charlotte, which.. will be pretty big, pretty big. Everyone who's heard that has been like, "Yeah! It's one of those records!" [chuckles]."

"I'm at the plate and I gotta hit a home run. I know it. So I'm tellin' my fans they better get up and support this 'cause I'm givin' them the music that they want. And if it doesn't work out man, I can't say that I'ma keep on battin' at it."

"And that's not sayin' that to diss him [Lupe Fiasco]. I like him. I'm a fan of his music. I think he's a very smart and intelligent guy."

"Honestly, when I watched his [Barack Obama] speech, I was standin' up the whole time watchin' it. I felt it was one of my proudest moments. I felt better when I was watchin' that then when I did when I won my Grammy! I needed that, you know?"

Q da Kid Video/Bio

In conjunction with the video BOBO sent over today, I guess it's only fitting to post his bio. I saw his special on MTV and he doesn't seem that bad. Hopefully he can translate he premature success in to something special...then again....isn't that what all aspiring artists trying to do?

Q (aka Kareem Savage) was a former member of Da Franchise with fellow Brooklynites Red Café and Gravy. Q started his solo career as a contributor to mix-tapes by DJ Clue, Kay Slay, DJ Khaled and others. Relocating to Atlanta, it was inevitable that he’d cross paths with Dupri - who quickly recognized Q’s talent and put him in the studio.

Q landed his first major feature on Da Brat’s "World Premiere" and the Drumline hit movie soundtrack. Ever since signing to JD’s So So Def/Virgin imprint in the summer 2006, Q has been heard on a string of top-charted remixes including "Make Me Better" by Fabolous featuring Ne-Yo, "No One" by Alicia Keys, "Fine" by Mary J. Blige, "Can’t Help But Wait" by Trey Songz, and more. At the same time, Q’s humanitarian side and dedication to youth culture comes out via the Glenn Toby Organization and the Book Bank Foundation.

To the legions of hardcore fans who have logged over 50,000 profile views on Q’s MySpace website (http://www.myspace.com/qdakid19) over the past 12 months, he is ready to take over the mantle of BK supremacy established more than a decade ago by Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. Check out wordmaster Q’s freestyle chops on the four tracks posted at his website: "Hero Freestyle," "Soulful Music," and "How I Wish."

In conjunction with P&G’s leverage of TAG Records as part of its re-introduction of TAG this summer, Q will be on the receiving end of one of the biggest promotional campaigns ever devised, including television, print, radio, digital and event marketing. This unprecedented launch is a cornerstone of TAG’s initiative to cultivate relationships with the urban community through development of programs that provide opportunities for aspiring hip-hop talent. P&G will showcase Q and Dupri across TAG’s various advertising and marketing initiatives throughout 2008.

Kanye West at AMA's, Speaks On Show

West, who releases his fourth LP, 808s & Heartbreak, on Monday, beat out Jay-Z's American Gangster and Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III as his Graduation took home the award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Album. Here is West's speech in full:

"I would like to thank everybody who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music," he said. "I wake up in the morning just thinking about which stereotypes I want to break. And, you know, we pushed the envelope with the last album, with 'Stronger,' with records they thought wouldn't play on urban radio, and it's our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other and keep competing with each other.

"It's a really great competition," West continued. The win marked his first at the AMAs. "I see artists like Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Chris Martin all in the same room, and we're going to push this music to the point where it was like in the '60s, in the '70s, where you talk about Led Zeppelin and Hendrix and the Beatles. We will be the new Beatles, the new Hendrix. They say in every other industry, you're supposed to do better than the past. Like, computers should get smaller and faster. But whenever you say, 'I want to be Elvis,' they say, 'What's wrong with you?' But I don't want to be Elvis."

And two of music's current heavyweights, according to 'Ye, won early in the evening: Rihanna edged out Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys for the Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, and Brown won his first AMA for Best Pop/Rock Male, downing Usher and Kid Rock for the prize. Keys' LP As I Am would later pick up an award for Favorite Pop/Rock Album, besting the likes of Coldplay and the Eagles, and another for Favorite Soul/R&B Album.

Other big winners Sunday evening included Taylor Swift, who was named Country Music's Favorite Female Artist over Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood, and Rihanna, who took home another prism-like statuette for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. Daughtry, one of the true "American Idol" success stories, took home the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group, winning over Coldplay and the Eagles. The Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist went to West, not Flo Rida or Lil Wayne. But Kanye wasn't keen on keeping the award.

"I'm a fan of music," said West, who performed "Heartless," a cut from his new one. "I got my opinion. And I want to give this award to Wayne, for this year. If it was last year, this would have been my award. This year's Wayne award; we'll see what happens next year."

This is sad...

Four out of five college students and young graduates are looking for a job to make extra money during the holidays, but many of them don’t think they’ll land one in a rough-and-tumble economy.

That’s according to a holiday jobs survey by Boston-based Experience Inc., which provides career services for college students and recent graduates.

Only 22 percent surveyed said they had secured a part-time or full-time job for the upcoming winter break. That’s down from 47 percent of survey respondents in 2007.

Of those still looking for a job, 53 percent said they think they are unlikely to secure a position, the survey said.

Talib Kweli Speaks on Barack Obama

MARGEAUX'S MIX: Do you think that Obama's election will have an impact on rap music?
TALIB KWELI: Obama's presence in politics in general has had a huge impact on all types of music. But [his campaign] had the power to bring in the black musicians, the hip-hop musicians, and the cutting edge musicians who are not like Bruce Springsteen and those other old men who pay taxes, have mortgages, and stuff like that. Common is from Chicago and he was on it real early just because of the impact [Obama] had in the community. Young Jeezy had been slowly talking more about Obama all year, but around the time his new album [The Recession] dropped last summer, he created a song called "My President" with Nas before Obama even won the election. In the song, Jeezy says, "[Obama's] my president whether he wins or not." So it's not about him winning the election; it's about the man that he is.

Ali Vegas - Wise Young Man

I've said since I started this site - I've been one of the biggest fans of Ali Vegas music since I heard dude back in 2000. It's a shame certain circumstances didn't work out for Vegas because he had a lot of potential. Given the right chance, when talent was relevant, I could have seen him being a big plus for music and New York hip hop.

Seems like he's stuck with the Papoose-treatment, making mixtape after mixtape but no final result.

Regardless, he's back again with a new mixtape called Transition of Power to be released soon. Thanks to Legend.

Remy has always maintained that the shooting was an "accident."

why am i covered in cereal?

oh shit....that coffee pot is coming for my face!!!

in reality the crash was all of about 7 seconds....but to do a 360 on the highway and end up ramped up (the van that crashed into ours was UNDER our double decker bus) in the air....is....well...

a frigging miracle.

my first thought was not move a fucking inch. i always had fear that we would fall off a cliff while in high mountain traveling like denver or switzerland. i couldn't tell where gravity began and ended. i felt like i did 3000 crunches so obviously my side of the bus was now on the ground (the only way i can describe the position was imagine yourself on a bus sitting down.....now postion yourself sitting on the left side of the bus....now overturn the bus so that it tips over and falls to the right side. now on top of all that position the front of the bus to stand smack dab in the middle of the air as if a ramp was holding it up 90 degrees.

Mikkey Halsted - Who Am I? (Prod. Kanye West)

It's always interesting to hear artist before they "got on" or signed. Drake & Lykke Li - Little Bit

Wheelchair Jimmy aka Drake knocks you upside the head with a new collaboration from Swedish sensation Lykke Li. Although I'm not 100% familiar with all of her music, LaceZilla loves her, so I trust that judgment. It's an interesting sound that probably isn't for everybody, but you already know Drake goes in.

A more melodic "808's & Heartbreak" thing going on here rather than Drake's straight up rapping, but I can dig it - Drake's been singing AND rapping since the beginning of his career and excels in both.

Drake's new mixtape, So Far Gone, should be dropping relatively soon ~

Akon ft. Snoop Dogg - Day Dreaming [Re-Up]

Akon and Snoop Dogg hook back up for another collaboration track. A smooth ode to a topic that's all too familiar with the likes of people like Akon, Snoop and T-Pain. It's all good though. Drumma Boy production? Can't go wrong with that. Judging by the number of drops by DJ Drama, I'd say this is probably going on a Gangsta Grillz tape rather than Akon's new album. Details are minimal - Thanks to Brigeston for sending this through.

Complex Interviews Mr.Jones

Thanks to the kid J.L.Puma for sending this through. Big up to Complex Mag, as always. On his relationship with Cam'ron:

Complex: Meanwhile, your relationship with Cam’ron is at a standstill. It seems like that souring has had the most effect on you.

Jim Jones: It’s definitely hard, because that’s my nigga, that’s my brother. We rolled together for a very long time, and there are things I remember we said that we would never do. And now that we’ve got so much success, we’re doing all the things we watched people do and said that wouldn’t be us. It’s the ego; it has to be. This is a question I’ve asked myself over and over again. That’s the only way I see it. Amongst everything else, there was a couple things said on my part, but I can do that if I want to. Above all, I kept it fair; I could really expose shit, but that’s not what I’m here for. Once your ego becomes bigger than money, you can’t get anywhere. It’s a sad thing—we’ve built so much. Everywhere around the world, people know the Diplomats as a strong entity. And it’s at a halt due to the fact we’ve been going back and forth through this minute bullshit.

Kevin Rudolf ft. Rick Ross - Welcome to the World

Stop Snitching...

...on yourself. I mean, how dumb can you get!? According to this article on SixShot.com a rapper from Atlanta rapped about shooting a man in one of his rap songs and will now get 20 years in prison. Wow, just, Wow! This is hilarious, and at the same time just sad! If this doesn't give some (aspiring) rappers a reason to change their content I don't know what will.

The article states:

An aspiring Atlanta rapper who wrote a song about shooting a man was sentenced to 20 years behind bars today (November 19).

According to The Associated Press, 25-year-old Rico Todriquez Wright shot Chad Blue in the thigh and the groin in September 2006 and recorded a song about the incident.

Wright reportedly rapped on a song saying "Ask Chad Blue, he knows how I shoot."

Blue, 28, testified that he had known Wright before the shooting but they weren't friendly. He also revealed that Wright was egged on by his friends during the shooting.

Wright was sentenced to 20 years for two counts of aggravated assault. He will spend another 20 years on probation.

Colin Munroe ft. Wale - Will I Stay [remix]

Wale puts his spin on Colin Munroe's single for "Will I Stay" in this one. Munroe is probably best known in the hip hop community for doing a killer remix to Kanye West's "Flashing Lights." He'll also be performing alongside Wale and Kid Cudi in a show on the 9th of December in NYC. Can't wait to see what else they cook up. I'm loving the blending of genre's between upcoming artists. It gives music a more eclectic feel rather than hearing the same thing regurgitated over and over. Big thanks to illroots for this one!

Haze X Lotus

Among the highlights of last month’s Downshift Session 2008 was a custom painted 2007 Lotus Exige S done by respected artist Eric Haze. Just recently, Eric Haze has offered a great deal of insight into the project and how it came about. Given only 5 days, Haze had to ensure his plans were executed flawlessly given the limited time frame and the necessity to use “quick drying and very unforgiving old school pinstripers enamel that was best suited for the job”.

The car is currently up on the auction blocks to help raise funds for the charity
“Studio In A School” on Grand St. in Manhattan. The auction can be seen at eBay.com while a full run-down of the project from Haze himself can be seen over at his blog.

Man, Dame Dash is getting desperate trying to turn these two guys against each other. Check out what he told Complex Mag via the New York Daily News:

"Dash claims the simmering beef dates back to a 2003 Chicago concert, where the then-up-and-coming Kanye expected ruling Roc-A-Fella artist Jay to "knight" him by presenting him with a gleaming chain.

But, according to Dash, Jay didn't want to fork over the chain.

"This n- [Kanye ] was like, 'Wow. [Jay-Z] ain't going to give me the chain,'" Dash alleges in December's Complex magazine. "I had to take off my chain and give it to him, and I was heated. I had the real canary diamonds. That s- cost $40,000! I told Kanye, 'Yo, you got to give that back when we get off this stage!'"

Dash contends that after Jay-Z violated the code of hip-hop chivalry, "Kanye hated Jay-Z."
