Ghostface in Ebay Scandal???

His new album, Big Doe Rehab, looks set to become one of the year's most acclaimed releases, but for Ghostface Killah victory is bittersweet. Last month the Wu-Tang emcee announced intentions to sell a hat on eBay (relive our coverage here and here). When the bidding ended on November 4, the lucky winner of said hat — a fitted "Atlanta Backwoods" cap which has "been in front of Halle Berry" — agreed to deposit $355 in the PayPal account of Ghostface's intermediary seller. At least that was the plan.

"I didn't sell it," the rapper told Vulture's Sadia Latifi yesterday in an explosive interview. "Because the guy that posted on it that bought it, he reneged on it. So it wasn't nothing to it, you know." At press time, no negative feedback had been exchanged. Stay tuned early next week for more details on this unfolding story, plus our full Q&A with Ghostface.

Mannie Fresh's Sister Killed at her House

A 42-year-old mother of two young children was shot and killed late Wednesday night in her Algiers home while her kids were there.

Angela Bryant, who is the sister of local rap artist Mannie Fresh, was found in her home in the 1000 block of Farragut Street early Thursday morning.

The children were not physically harmed, according to police.

Police said Bryant’s husband was out of town when she was killed, but he arrived at the scene before noon and was visibly upset.

“We’re still working on a motive and we have some limited information at this time,” said Police Chief Warren Riley.

Bryant’s 1998 Black Lexus LS 400 with the license plate PTF 205 was missing from the home and police are searching for the vehicle.

Carrie St. Cyr, the mother of the victim, told Eyewitness News Reporter Jill Hezeau that Bryant just got married in October. She said Wednesday was her birthday and the family had gone out to dinner to celebrate.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111. Callers do not have to leave a name and could be eligible for a reward.

Flo-Rida Stil @ Number 1 on the Download Charts

Poe Boy Entertainment/Atlantic recording artist Flo Rida has scored big again this week at iTunes. The Florida-based rapper debuted at #1 three weeks ago with his single, "Low (Feat. T-Pain)," selling over 120,000 digital downloads in just its first week available. "Low" has remained the #1 single at iTunes now for three consecutive weeks. The track has soared into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well, landing at #4, and comes in at #2 on the SoundScan Digital Song chart for its second week in a row. Flo Rida also leaps into the top 5 on the Billboard "Hot RingMasters" chart, with the ringtone for "Low" ranking at #3 this week.

Flo Rida is quickly marking himself as one of the hottest new voices in hip-hop. The Carol City, FL native has announced plans to release his major label debut album, "MAIL ON SUNDAY," in February of 2008. The album sees Flo Rida joined not only by T-Pain but other major-league guests including Rick Ross and Trey Songz, with production from an incredible line-up including The Runners, JR Rotem, and Atlanta's DJ Montay, who produced "Low."

At Rhythmic radio, "Low" is currently locked inside the Top 5 and was the #1 greatest gainer for the third consecutive week. Its one-week increase was up 806 spins, one of the largest spin gains of 2007. At Top 40 radio, "Low" has had yet another mammoth week, jumping to #23 with a bullet. The track is currently in full-time rotation at both Pop and Rhythmic formats in every major market in the country, and countless stations are reporting that "Low" is their #1 most-requested song.

The new companion video for "Low" is blowing up at MTV, where it has already been added to rotation at MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits, and MTV Jams, as well as at BET. Last week, MTV's "TRL" and BET's "106 & Park" premiered the video, in addition to other recent premieres on MTV2's "Sucker Free" and BET's "Rap City."

On MySpace, Flo Rida comes in at #3 on the Top Indie Artists ranking and at YouTube, his channel has received more than one million views to date.

In other news, "Low" will be prominently featured in the upcoming motion picture "Step Up 2 The Streets," which hits theatres February 14th, as well as in its accompanying soundtrack, which will also be released by Atlantic Records.

Flo Rida can currently be heard on Poe Boy labelmate Rick Ross' new single, "Street Money." Both rappers just shot the song's music video in Miami. Flo Rida was also recently featured on fellow-Floridian DJ Khaled's current album, "We The Best," on the track "B***h I'm From Dade County." In addition, Flo Rida's "Radio" will appear on EA Game's NFL Tour 2008, which hits stores in January.

Akon Heading To Court

Akon! WTF? There's no need to throw a kid off the stage! Cops apparently agree and have now charged the R & B singer with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment.

The charges stem from an incident last June in upstate NY when he was performing at a concert and someone in the crowd allegedly threw something at the singer on stage. Akon asked the crowd to point out the culprit. A security guard picked a 15-year-old out from the crowd and sent him up to the stage, where Akon hoisted him onto his shoulders and flung him into the crowd. Smack that! The kid landed on another teen who told the local paper she was later diagnosed with a concussion.

Akon is scheduled to appear in a local court on Monday for arraignment. Locked up!

Entertaining Ghostface Intv.

A decade ago, the Wu-Tang Clan and Ghostface dropping new music within a week of each other would have been cause for a national hip-hop holiday. Unfortunately, in 2007, it only heightens the tension within the Wu camp, regarding everything from compensation to the musical direction of the group’s upcoming album, 8 Diagrams. Rhapsody had a chance to sit down with Pretty Toney while he was promoting his seventh album, Big Doe Rehab. We got his thoughts on the inspiration for his ghetto stories, on G-Unit's Tony Yayo’s claims that Ghost may not be the author of Supreme Clientele, and on where things currently stand with the RZA and the Wu.

RHAPSODY: When you’re telling stories like “Maxine” or “Alex (Stolen Scripts),” are they inspired by real-life experiences?

Ghostface: When I hear a certain type of music, it brings certain things out. I’m an artist. I’m a real poet. Whatever the beat makes me see, I’ll go write. It might sound like a murder. It might sound like a real snowy day, or kids having fun in the snow. It might sound like “The Sun.” “Maxine” was a true story. It was based upon what happened with fiends in the projects. Crackheads is funny. They be doin’ all types of dumb s**t. You gotta watch ‘em. They sneak things from you.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen a crackhead do?

Just anything. These m*th*rf*ck*rs dance for crack. Some of them do anything you tell ‘em to do. M*th*rf*ck*rs spin on their head on concrete for a f*ck*n’ rock.

So when you’re constructing a story like “Maxine,” how long does it take to write?

Sometimes it takes a long time. It depends on how much you keep going back to it. I might write a page and then don’t go back to it for like two weeks or three weeks. It just depends on what comes that day.

What was it like collaborating with Mobb Deep on classics like “Right Back at You”?

That was early days. I don’t remember none of that sh*t. We were just in the studio. I think they had that sh*t already done and we just came and tagged on it. I wasn’t there when [Big] Noyd finished it off. Also, somebody else was on it from Staten Island. N*gg*s cut ‘em off, and put me and Rae [Raekwon] on. It was my man. I don’t want to put him out there or blow him

50 Cent might be working with Lindsay Lohan on New Album

Whether we like it or not - most likely not - Lindsay Lohan is working on another album. Her third!

And she’s got some interesting collaborators planned for her latest opus.

According to her famewhoring father, the actress is hoping to hook up with 50 Cent on the record.

“They’re talking about working together. Nothing’s firm yet, but they’re in talks,” he tells Life And Style. “They’ve actually known each other for a while, just from being in the business together and crossing paths at events.”

If she is going to make another record, she should at least try and make it good!

Having Fiddy on it? Not good.

Lindz should stick to pure pop and dance.

Nas' New Album Details, Song Titles
If you thought Nas was being controversial with an album titled Nigger, wait until you hear some of the song titles he has for the project. The MC reached out to MTV News earlier this week to reveal a bit more about the work-in-progress.

"I have a song called 'The Fear,' " he said. "The full title of the record is 'The Fear of the Black Man's D---.' That's some sh-- you can get comedy [from], or you can get some seriousness from it when you talk about the barbaric castrations that happened in our past — which is very serious, nothing to laugh at."

Nas also said that despite the serious name of his project — which has already set off a firestorm of controversy — the LP will be balanced, and he emphasized that he is not singling out any one race.

"It's not an attack on white people at all," he promised, regarding the record's content. "It's knowledge; it's understanding for all people. It's not an attack on any race."

Nas clarified that he will be combating a myriad of racial slurs, not just the one after which he named his album.

"It's about the attacks that have happened to blacks, whites, all ethnicities," he continued. " 'Mick' niggers, 'guinea' niggers, 'kike' niggers. I have a song called 'You a Nigger Too.' "

"It's all over the place," he added. "Balance is so important because there's a fun level to the [album] too. There's an attractive, sexy, aspect to it; a stylish aspect, a flashy aspect. It takes negatives and makes them good."

While Nas had originally hoped to release the album next month, rather than rush the project, he decided to take his time and rescheduled the album's drop date for February: Black History Month.

"Just to get the sh-- all the way right," Nas said of what caused the delay. "I was still working and it was a few weeks away from a release date. It was impossible, the timing was off. I was running into the holidays. I'm always coming out in December so I guess I was used to it, but I had to force myself out of that. I couldn't force the album out if it wasn't done."

The album's production is almost over, however, and Nas said Jermaine Dupri and Diddy will be helping him to close out.

"It's in the developmental stages," he said of the tracks Diddy is bringing to the table. "The potential could go anywhere. I'm writing a lot of sh-- down, and it just sounds crazy. The direction is totally right. Sometimes when you sit down and write, you don't know how it will go. But this is totally right."

Thus far, Salaam Remi, Stargate and DJ Toomp are the most notable names who have delivered beats to Nas.

"DJ Toomp is a humble cat," he said of the Atlanta producer who has earned his biggest credits working with T.I. and more recently Jay-Z. "He has talent way beyond his years. He's got every style you need: rock joints, R&B joints. I don't wanna give it all away, but he's the type of dude that can go anywhere. Toomp is my man, he's got knowledge and that's important when you're working on your umpteenth album. It means something.

"Working with this music, if you don't have no knowledge of self, I can't work with you," he continued. "You have to have some knowledge of who we are. You can't just go in there and throw on a beat like, 'Here's a hot beat.' That don't mean anything. I need a producer. All the tracks were made for this record — you can feel the passion in the beat-making. It's time to build, '08, this the movement we on."

Nas said that no one he reached out to was reluctant to work with him on this project, and said he has not been surprised by the support he's gotten from his peers, despite the controversy surrounding his choice of album names.

"They get it," he said of supporters such as Alicia Keys, Method Man, Russell Simmons, as well as Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid. "We know what time it is. This [album] is a small thing. [Making music] is what I do, so this is part of the way I fight. But people all know what we been going up against this year and the year before and the year before. I ain't saying nothing that's foreign to them."

9th Wonder Working on New Project

Fresh off the second phase of his successful "Dream Merchant" series, producer 9th Wonder is stepping away from the traditional boom bap sound to create a new R&B/Hip Hop project entitled "The Wonder Years." The album is slated for release on January 29, 2008 on Asylum Records, and will enlighten fans with unique collaborations.

Since his humble beginnings with North Carolina group Little Brother, 9th Wonder has been embraced by Hip Hop fans around the world. He blazed new paths for his production on both the Hip Hop and R&B fronts with the likes of Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Destiny's Child and other chart topping groups. 9th Wonder recently teamed with Erykah Badu for her new single "Honey," which will appear on her upcoming Universal/Motown album The Kabah. In turn, Erykah will be featured on "The Wonder Years" alongside Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, Teedra Moses, Mos Def, Little Brother and more.

"The Wonder Years" represents a new sound and style for 9th's fans, but the venture is a familiar territory for him both personally and professionally. "Sonically people can expect bigger sounding beats, more expansion of my sound," he explains. "There will be an element of classic, throwback R&B, but with a current twist. With this album I'm not only defining myself, but I'm defining people in my age group. It's not necessarily an underground or overground thing, you just want to find the music that fits you and where you are in your life right about now. That's what "The Wonder Years" is for me."

The first single from "The Wonder Years" will be announced soon. In the meantime, 9th is ensuring that every detail on the album will suit the vibe and his ultimate mission. "My calling is soul music - just good for the soul and good to listen to," he says. "It's more reminiscent of the great pantheon of Black music, and I want to be mentioned in that somewhere. Somebody has to come along and join what Common and all of these other great MCs started, we really have to start looking at the situation of how we affect young Black men and women. In the past music has been used for good, music has always had a message in it, and I just want to be a part of that legacy."

Heavy Marketing Plan for The Cool

Fiasco plans to expand the new album's characters into a Vincent Price-esque vintage radio show via a currently unspecified satellite radio company for release alongside his album. In addition, he is creating character-inspired toys and is working with Converse, Levi's, street wear brand Maharishi and Japanese clothing line Swagger to craft custom Righteous Kung Fu designs.

Each clothing line will release their pieces at different times throughout next year, to keep the brand top of mind with consumers.
Mobile is a key part of Atlantic's marketing campaign. The company has partnered with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint for ringtones and downloads, and Boost Mobile, which was an early Fiasco supporter, will prominently display stand-up advertisements for "The Cool" in 8,000 stores beginning in January.

Online, additional viral videos are planned in an attempt to capitalize on the crossover of "Dumb It Down," which became so popular on YouTube that it landed on BET and MTV. In addition, Atlantic product manager Veronica Alvericci says Fiasco might blog on a to-be-announced site for the remainder of his 22-market promo tour.

An online in-store is in the works, where Atlantic will "partner with a major retailer, who'd air the in-store across their Web sites nationally, and distribute it amongst all of their chains," Alvericci says, and MTV.com's "The Leak" initiative will begin streaming "The Cool" Dec. 11, a week ahead of street date.

TV placements include a "Monday Night Football" commitment from ESPN for "Superstar," while several other album tracks are due to be used on the sports network's Sunday program, "Ultimate Highlight." You can't blame Fiasco for having a few things other than marketing plans on his mind these days. During the last year, his father, aunt and friend Stack Bundles passed away, and his longtime friend and manager Charles "Chill" Patterson was arrested and sentenced to 44 years in prison for a 2003 drug charge.

Baby speaks on Arrest

Bryan "Baby" Williams — a.k.a. Birdman — reached out to MTV News on Wednesday afternoon (November 28) to talk about his arrest for marijuana possession on Tuesday night. According to a copy of the report from the police department of Kingsport, Tennessee, Williams was among 16 people charged with possession of nearly a pound of marijuana after the RV they were riding in was pulled over for weaving on Interstate 81. Officers said they found a plastic bag of "plant material" believed to be about 1 pound of marijuana.

"We was on the bus. I was asleep in the back," he said. "Why they pulled us over, I don't know. The people are making the situation out worse than what it is. We got arrested for a misdemeanor amount of [marijuana] — we didn't have no pound. The police just found something minor in a garbage can the dog sniffed. We all got out on bond."

Baby also maintained that he is not in trouble with the law for carrying guns. He said he and his security personnel are all licensed gun carriers and their weapons were returned by the authorities.

"The guns we had were good," he said. "I do carry a gun and I am licensed. Tennessee is one of the states I can tote in. We know the guidelines [for carrying weapons]. They make you aware of everything in [marksmanship] class."

Birdman also emphasized that he is not married, as has been widely reported. He said the young woman mentioned in the reports was a friend of one of the guys traveling with him.

"I'm not married," he insisted. "Never! Been! Married! Plus, that girl was 18! I don't get down like that! Plus, if I was married, why would I keep it a secret?" However, he did allow that perhaps the right woman could make an honest man out of him one day.

Baby is on the road promoting his new LP, 5 Star G, which comes out on December 11. He said he's due back in court on March 18.

"Hopefully all the charges will be dropped by then, and we won't have to go to court," he said. "But we good. Everybody is fine."

Police had not returned MTV News' calls for comment at press time, however WVLT in Knoxville, Tennessee, reports that Baby was charged with possession of more than a half-ounce of marijuana and released on $1,500 bond at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, along with "several others."

Jay Talks Collabos with BIG, Nas, Rick Rubin

NEW YORK — It's one of the most fabled stories in hip-hop history: Jay-Z and the Notorious B.I.G. meeting in the studio to collaborate on what would become the scorching track "Brooklyn's Finest," from Jay's classic debut, Reasonable Doubt.

One top-class MC pitted against a rising blue-chip MC, and when Jay passed Biggie a notebook to jot down words for his verse, the Bad Boy rapper passed it back and responded that he doesn't write down his lyrics. Jay said that he didn't either, and the lyrical showdown began.

The result was undeniable, but if you're wondering why Jay doesn't have more great stories behind his numerous collaborations, it's because that recording session was one of the few where he and the guest artist knew prior to the song being complete that they'd be working together.

And with the advent of technology and artists being able to e-mail audio files to producers and engineers, a guest like Lil Wayne doesn't even get to hear the completed version of his song with Jay — "Hello Brooklyn 2.0" from American Gangster — basically until the general population does.

"It ruins the spirit," Jay admitted to MTV News. "You wanna know the conversation and the camaraderie and how'd you come up with that [idea]. That part is lost through the technology, but that's just the day and age that we live in. Technology makes it convenient to be in two different cities and make one song. There's a million stories that came out of that one session that me and Big was in — even the most important: us finding out that we didn't write. You couldn't get that, and that's just classic."

Foxy Says She is a Stronger Person Now

MANHATTAN. Jailed rap diva Foxy Brown is out of punitive segregation on Rikers Island for “good behavior” and looks forward to her release with a new understanding of self, she told Metro yesterday.

“I’m a survivor,” Brown said. “It’s been very hard, but I believe God uses circumstances to develop your character. I know coming out of this I’m going to be a much stronger person.”

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, 28, has been in jail since August for multiple probation violations. She was ordered to spend 76 days in 23-hour lockdown last month after being involved in a scuffle with another inmate, verbally assaulting prison officials and refusing to take a drug test. She spent 40 days in solitary.

Brown said her “celebrity status” has not afforded her any special treatment, “Even upon my arrival, I never had a choice. I was always on lockdown. That’s what people don’t understand.”

Despite her upturn in spirits, Brown said spending the holiday season behind bars has been tough.

“I probably cried the entire Thanksgiving,” she said. “I spoke to my entire family, but I was boo-hooing like a baby. We were served what would be considered sweet potatoes, collared greens and turkey, but it wasn’t anything like my mother’s cooking. I was really, really depressed all day.”

Once out of jail — perhaps as early as April — Brown hopes to become a spokesperson for the National Association of the Deaf after her sudden hearing loss in 2005. She said her hearing has improved while at Rikers.

And, of course, there will be parties.

“They’re going to have a huge church celebration for me,” she said, of True Worship Church in Brooklyn. “After that, it’s more welcome home parties and then to my nice, big estate to have a family get-together.”

Brown’s troubles began when she received probation following a 2004 altercation at a city nail salon. She was locked up this year after assaulting a neighbor with a BlackBerry and leaving New York without permission, both probation violations.

The rapper now claims her days of grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons are over.

“I’m much smarter now,” Brown said. “I know how to dodge and weave.”

JR Rotem Impregnates Britney Spears...wrong move

On November 14, Britney Spears confided to her friends in e-mails that she was four weeks pregnant — and that she was sure the father was J.R. Rotem, a music producer she's been seeing on and off since she separated from ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2006. When asked about the pregnancy, J.R. confirmed exclusively to In Touch that Britney is carrying his child. "It's true," he says.

On November 16, she proudly e-mailed a copy of the ultrasound to her inner circle. For all her recent troubles, she seems convinced that having another baby will turn her life around — and she believes that J.R. will make a great father, even though he explicitly talked about their sex life in Blender magazine earlier this year. "Britney's not looking for another husband," an insider says. "But she does like having a man in her life."

Dogg Pound Leaves Cash Money

West Coast rap group Tha Dogg Pound has announced today that they have terminated a deal with Cash Money Records over a financial dispute.

Tha Dogg Pound, which features rappers Kurupt and Daz, announced a deal with the New Orleans-based record label in August, but the deal never produced any tangible results.

Just three months after announcing the deal, the group has opted leave Cash Money Records to pursue other options for the distribution of their music.

"Cash Money just couldn't come up with the cash," the group said in a statement. "Though the Tha Dogg Pound was looking forward to working with Slim and Baby, Tha Dogg Pound is moving on to pursue other endeavors."

Tha Dogg Pound will continue to record and are currently in negotiations with various companies to release their new material, as well as Daz’ upcoming solo project, Only on the Left Side.

Trilla Pushed Back to 2008

Rick Ross will release his sophomore album Trilla on Feb. 19, 2008. The project was originally scheduled to be part of an already crowded fourth quarter lineup, as Def Jam intended to release it on Dec. 18. While the Runners produced single "Hustlin" worked its way to platinum, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and pushing the album Port of Miami to 722,000 copies sold, Ross hasn't been able to repeat his success this time around. "Speedin,'" the first single to be released from Trilla is currently at number 76 the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and has shown little progress since its release. Def Jam hopes pushing the release date back will give the project more time to develop.

Trilla will feature production from the Runners, Mannie Fresh, The Neptunes and Cool and Dre, as well as others. Lil' Wayne, Akon, T-Pain and Marsha Abrosius all make appearances on the album, as does Jay-Z, who is featured on the song "Maybach Music." In anticipation of the former release date, Def Jam launched a website for Trilla, which is still up.

Birdman Arrested For Smokin that Green...wait, he has a wife thats 18 years old?

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - Rapper Bryan "Birdman" Williams was among 16 people charged with possession of marijuana Tuesday after the RV they were riding in was pulled over by police for making an improper lane change.

Kingsport Police Cpl. Tim Horne said he stopped the vehicle after seeing it force a tractor trailer into the emergency lane on Interstate 81.

Horne said he could smell marijuana from inside the rented RV and located about a pound of marijuana in a trash can in the kitchenette after obtaining consent to search the vehicle.

Williams, 38, his wife Brittany, 18, and his brother, Ronald Williams, 43, were each charged with possession of more than 1/2 ounce of marijuana as were 13 others, several of whom are also affiliated with the rap industry and Cash Money Records, which was founded by Bryan and Ronald Williams.

Among those arrested were road manager Shahid Muhammad, 40, Cash Money Records promoter Casey Collins, 42, and music promoter Ovide Antoine, 32, of Miami, Fla.

All 16 remained jailed late Tuesday night. It was not known if any of them had an attorney.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is assisting in the investigation because an assault rifle, a handgun and a magazine for a .45-caliber handgun were found on the RV, Horne said. No weapons charges have been filed.

The group said they were traveling from New Orleans to New York for a BET network shoot, Horne said.

Hits featuring Birdman include "Stuntin' Like My Daddy" and "Army Gunz."

Congrats Usher

Usher and his wife, Tameka Foster, welcomed a baby boy on Monday night, multiple sources tell PEOPLE.

While reps for Usher and Foster were not immediately available for comment, one source says Usher was with his wife and new child Tuesday at an Atlanta hospital, and the family is expected to head home on Wednesday.

Multiple sources told PEOPLE before the birth that the couple planned to name their son Usher Raymond V.

No other details were available.

Usher, 29, and Foster, 36, announced the pregnancy in June. In September, Usher told PEOPLE that they were expecting a boy, and added, "I just want my son to fully be coherent and to be healthy, first and foremost."

The couple were married in a quiet civil ceremony in Atlanta on Sept. 1.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK — Everyone has something to say about Britney Spears these days ... and Jay-Z is no different. Hov name-checked the troubled pop star on a couple of tracks from American Gangster: current single "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is ...)" and "Ignorant Sh--."

On "Roc Boys," Jay spits: "Hero'n got less steps than Britney/ That means it ain't stepped on, dig me?"

In deciphered terms, Jay — channeling Frank Lucas, main character of the "American Gangster" flick that inspired the MC's new LP — is saying the drug hasn't been stepped on, or hasn't been cut with another substance to lessen its quality. Hov then seemingly ties in that that concept with a witty reference to allegations of Spears' drug use, and the 12-step program that would presumably ensue in recovery.

The coded reference, Hov said, is part of the appeal of making rhymes. He called the lyrical device his favorite function of music, but sometimes the references are even more veiled. It's not for him to spell things out all the time — don't expect him to hold your hand.

"[Those hidden references are] really for the people who like to listen like that [closely], first," he said. "And it's [also] for people to catch later. I think sometimes you have to leave [them] in there — it's almost like an Easter egg hunt or whatever. You just leave things in there that are too far. They're not set up, it's not your typical punch line, and you can't guess it. You know how sometimes someone says a line and you can guess the second one, where they're going? You can't guess it or can't see it [with me] — it just comes out of nowhere. And you might not get it ever. Or you might get it five years later. That's what it's for. Something you put on and you go, 'Oh my goodness, I didn't realize that he said ... .' I think that's the best thing about music, just realizing something years later. So I leave certain things out there, open-ended in space."

Although Jay's hidden Britney gem isn't exactly a double-entendre, he considers that type of clever hidden phrasing to be his main strength as an MC. He's rapped so many of them over the years — so many, in fact, that he said he can't pick a favorite off the top of his head. ("Man, I'mma need to send that to you, I got to think about that one," he said, joking.)

But he explained how he extended the double reference beyond a line or two for "I Know," a track from American Gangster in which Jay again discusses heroin. He cleverly disguises the story about addiction as part of an allegory about love and lust.

"The emotion of the song dictates the song for me," Jay said. "The first thing I do, I say, 'What is the song saying?' For me ['I Know'] sounded like heroin. It sounded like someone like Miles Davis in a jazz club just high out of his mind, just going off playing some of the most amazing freestyle music you ever heard. That's what it felt like to me. That's what happens with drugs: They don't pound you like that. They talk to you, sweet. That's the allure of it, and it pulls you in. And that's what was happening. The lyrics were harmless — it's like a love song. So it was pulling you in, further and further. Until you realized that now you've become addicted to this drug. That was the whole method behind why [the song] sounded so sweet."

Although Jay was candid in talking about his strengths as an MC, he was less revealing when it came down to nailing his biggest flaw as a rapper.

"My voice," he said, before laughing, "is less than 10. Let's just say that. I never thought I had a great pitch. ... What I do is overcompensate with words and flow."

Evil Kanyevel Not Getting Sued haha

Kanye West and legendary stuntman Evel Knievel have officially settled their copyright dispute over the use of the daredevil’s image in the video for “Touch The Sky.” In Kanye’s video he assumes the persona of “Evil Kanyevel” and, while wearing a costume similar to the one worn by the legendary stuntman, attempts to jump a canyon on a motorcycle. Knievel viewed the video as infringement on his trademarked name and likeness said that “vulgar and offensive” images in the video might harm his reputation. He subsequently filed suit against Kanye, Roc-A-Fella Records and AOL for distributing the clip.

On July 11, the two parties notified a federal judge that they would attempt to work the disagreement out with a mediator in an effort to avoid a trial. While details of the settlement have not been disclosed, the matter was reportedly settled amicably and Kanye and Knievel recently met for a photo opportunity at the stuntman’s home in Tampa, Florida.

Redskins' Sean Taylor Dies After Being Shot
MIAMI -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early Tuesday, a day after the Pro Bowl player was shot at home by what police say was an intruder. He was 24.

Family friend Richard Sharpstein said Taylor's father told him the news around 5:30 a.m.

"His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."

Taylor died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been airlifted after the shooting early Monday, Sharpstein said.

Two carloads of mourners, including the athlete's father, arrived at the house Tuesday morning. They remained inside and did not speak to reporters. A single bouquet of flowers was left by a palm tree just outside a front gate. Beside the mailbox, an untouched newspaper lay with news of Taylor's shooting.

The Hater May Be Back on the Radio Waves (again)

Star, the morning deejay who was not only fired from his last gig, but arrested, may be returning to New York radio early next year on a new top-40 station.

A press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow morning to confirm his hiring, and while the announcement doesn't specify details, the station reportedly is WNYZ, which broadcasts on 87.7 FM on Long Island.

WNYZ is licensed as a low-power television station (Ch. 6), but it is currently only broadcasting audio, not video, on the 87.7 FM frequency.

Its current format is Russian popular music, but with the hiring of Star, it will reportedly switch to top-40.

Current plans apparently call for the format to start early next year, with video and streaming.

No one was available for comment yesterday, but Star had previously said he wanted a gig where he could bring back his whole team of Buc Wild, White Trash Helene, Miguel Candelaria and Chris the Queer.

Star was fired from WWPR (105.1 FM) in May 2006 after on-air remarks about what he would do to the young child of rival DJ Envy on WQHT (97.1 FM).

He was then arrested and served three days of community service.

Star maintained that no one could have taken his comments as a serious threat and sued Clear Channel, owner of WWPR, claiming the company hired him in part to make incendiary comments and then tried to distance itself when he got in trouble.

That suit is in the courts, with a ruling expected next on Clear Channel's motion to dismiss.

Jackson 5 Reuniting...

Michael Jackson is set to rejoin the Jackson Five for a world tour next year, according to his brother Jermaine.

And, there is even talk of sister Janet joining the boys on the road for their trek in ‘08!

While in the U.K. these past few days, Jermaine has told reporters: “We feel we have to do it one more time. We owe that to the fans and to the public.”

Asked whether Michael would be involved, Jermaine told BBC 6Music: “He has to be, he is a Jackson. He was at the meetings. Michael will be involved.”

This was inevitable.

Michael needs money. Badly!

Ms.West's Hairdresser Releases Voicemail from Donda Left Day Before Death

Donda West’s hairdresser, Charlay Thomas, is betraying her dead friend and making public a voice mail message Kanye’s mom left her the day before she died.

Click here to listen to it!

Donda’s last message said, “How are you? It’s Miss West. How’s everything going…I hope you get this message soon because it’s possible I need something from you, like, immediately! I am going to, um, go have my procedure done tomorrow and I’m getting every single thing from my neck to my knees! So, anyway, call me. I’ll tell you about that. I just decided at the last minute that it would be nice if my hair were corn-rowed [before the surgery].”

Thomas is also speaking out to Inside Edition.

In an exclusive interview, the hairdresser says: “If I had only picked up the phone.”

Charlay didn’t get the message until the next day, when Donda was already in operation.

Thomas says West had been considering having surgery since June and that she assisted West in her search for a doctor.

“I only visited one, but I know she shopped around,” says Charlay.

Thomas also tells Inside Edition that Kanye did not want his mother to have the surgery.

“She [Donda] said that Kanye did not want her to get it done. I think that Kanye was aware [of the surgery], but again like none of us, he did not know who this man is, who he was.”

Nas' Album Pushed Back (of course)

So far there's been a lot of talk about Nas' controversially titled new LP, Nigger, but no music. The man — and the album's title — has caused incitement and excitement without the public hearing a single note or rap.

Nas had originally planned to put the project out next month, but according to his camp, the album has been pushed to February: Black History Month. Nas told MTV News the first single will drop sometime in January.

And over the weekend, a snippet of what was labeled a new Nas record called "What It Is" leaked to the Net.

"Racist neighbors flinchin'," he rhymes. "They don't know if I'mma rob them/ Or if I'm Russell Simmons/ They thought it was me, just like Mike Bivens/ They pray for my downfall like the mom of Robin Givens."

Nas' camp said the MC is still working out the album's final track list. On Monday afternoon (November 26), Nas himself clarified to MTV News that "What It Is" will definitely not be on the album. Those are vocals that were leaked and added onto a random beat.

"I never rhymed to that beat" he said.

Atlanta's DJ Toomp (T.I., Ludacris) and longtime Nas collaborator Salaam Remi have already contributed tracks, in addition to a slew of new producers. Diddy and his new Hitmen are also scheduled to come onboard before production closes in the next week or so.

While community leaders such as the Reverend Al Sharpton have spoken out against Nas' use of the N-word, the wordsmith has gained a swell of support from his peers — including Alicia Keys, Method Man, LL Cool J and even Def Jam founder Russell Simmons — as well as current label head L.A. Reid.

Jay-Z Talks Lyric Writing, Or Lack Thereof...

NEW YORK — Jay-Z, whose "Rain Man" recording process finds him mumbling words to himself in the studio before stepping into the booth to spit out a complete song, definitely has the corner locked when it comes to rappers composing full songs in their heads. Young tikes like Chris Brown and Sean Kingston even cite Hov as an inspiration for their own songwriting processes.

"I've inspired a generation of bad writers," Jay joked to MTV News last week.

But the Def Jam president and iconic rapper obviously wrote down lyrics at one point in time. In fact, he revealed the last time he actually did so was for "Can I Live," a standout track on his 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt.

"What happened was, I was doing that song with someone else, and they heard the first verse and they was like, 'Man, you take that song. Finish it, 'cause it sounds like you got a lot more to say,' " Jay explained in a lengthy interview in which he discussed lyrics and songwriting. "You know, that type of thing. So I just wanted to get it down quick, I didn't want to keep going over it. It was like [the album] mastering time, so I just sat down in the booth and wrote that [verse]."

The verse contains multiple gems over the woozy, horn-laden production, like the lines: "I stepped it up another level, meditated like a Buddhist/ Recruited lieutenants with ludicrous dreams of getting cream/ Let's do this, it gets te-di-ous/ So I keep one eye open like, C-B-S, you see me stressed, right?"

According to Irv Gotti, who produced the track, the song was supposed to be a collaboration between Jay and a member of the rap group Original Flavor. Gotti mentioned he believed Nas was also set to appear on the track, too. But after the OF member passed on the guest appearance, Jay got to work finishing the song.

"From what I remember, he actually didn't write the full verse," Gotti wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. "But since the verse was so long, he wrote a few words down, and that made him remember the whole verse."

Young Buck NOT Robbed After All

After rumors, stemming from a MediaTakeout.com report asserted that Nashville rapper Young Buck may've been robbed outside a club in his hometown this weekend [click here for news story], those allegations have been falsified. "Ain't nobody robbed me for a thing," Buck told HipHopDX Monday afternoon. However, there was an exchange over jewelry wherein the rumor may have started. "There was an altercation between me and a dude here in Tenessee and during that altercation, I lost a watch which came off my arm. But as far as someone taking my Bentley, my Bentley is sitting pretty without a scratch on it, right here in my driveway and my jewelry is right here too. I guess this is what people wanted to happen. I didn't get robbed for anything."

The G-Unit star, known for his impulsive temper and fiery words added to the rumor-starters, "I don't owe anyone money and the dude who I had the altercation with knows me, and I know him, and we already had our words since the altercation happened, so whoever is posting this or commenting on this recklessly is trying to take Buck down but you can't take Buck down." The initial grumblings of the piece added that the rapper's jewelry were being posted for sale just hours after the robbery.

Saigon's Album STILL Coming (some day) Regardless of His Blog Post Claiming He's Quitting Rap

Saigon got you a little shook that his album may never drop? No need to worry because the megatron don aka Just Blaaaaze just released some info that the album is indeed still being mastered. According to Justin's blog the "album has shaped up quite nicely" and they went back in to the studio to re-work some things.

Helping him out with the process is Stevie E, S.C., Buckwild, Red Spyda, Scram Jones, Canei Live, and Clutch Johnson. Much to the surprise of all, Just has proclaimed that there were details that came up last minute that needed to be perfected. Mr. Blaze seems happy with the details added on to the greatest story never told. Look out for it soon !

Excerpt From Kanye's GQ Feature

6 MOMENTS WITH KANYE WEST

Talking into a camera as he left the Wendy Williams radio show this September, fired up by a little champagne and the success of his new album, Kanye West offered an update on how 2007 was going for him. “I’m the number one artist in the world right now,” he declared, pushing his face toward the lens. “I want you to document this right here, what I’m saying right now. I am the number one human being in music. That means any person that’s living or breathing is number two. Because I’m number one now.… You are in the presence of the champion. Bow in the presence of greatness.…”

On a more sober and reflective afternoon a few days later, sitting in his sparse, modernist New York apartment, West sees little reason to soften or withdraw this claim. That’s the thing about being drunk, he says. You say what you really believe to be true. “People got to look at the concerts, look at the sales, look at the impact, look at the songs, look at the connection with pop culture,” he continues. “I mean…it’s obvious. It’s almost I don’t even need to state it. It’s so true it’s obvious. It’s not even arguable.”

It is partly West’s readiness to proclaim what he sees as such obviousnesses that, in a world where such thoughts are generally expected to be disguised behind the politeness or hypocrisy of insincere humility, has contributed to his reputation for arrogance. He knows this: “This stuff I am saying is so politically incorrect—it is so not what an artist should say and so not humble and stuff like that, but the only problem with all that it’s so not is: it’s so true.” To him, this passionate plain-speaking is not arrogance, and the accusation is one that clearly frustrates him—he points out how overcareful he is, in the flesh, to treat people considerately, because he’s so worried that they’ll think he’s like people say he is. Likewise, he’s emphatic that this competitiveness with his peers comes from a position of respect, hypercompetitive as he may be: “All I did was talk about how I looked up to Justin or to Beyoncé, looking at what they did. But I’m looking at everything everybody does. I’m looking at everything T.I. does, I’m looking at everything Lil Wayne does, I’m looking at everything Jeezy does, I’m looking at everything Jay-Z does, I’m looking at everything the Killers do, I’m looking at everything Red Hot Chili Peppers does, I’m looking at everything U2 does, I’m looking at everything Rolling Stones does, I’m looking at stuff that Justice does, I’m looking at stuff the Arctic Monkeys do, I’m looking at stuff that TV On The Radio does, I’m looking at Dr. Dre, I’m looking at Timbaland, I’m looking at the Pussycat Dolls. So I’m looking at all these different things, and my goal is to take out everybody. My goal is to completely dominate.”

JMJ Witness Speaks Out

Uriel (Tony) Rincon, a close friend of Jam Master Jay who was with him on the night he was shot and killed, recently spoke publicly about the legendary deejay’s slaying for the first time.

On October 30th 2002, two armed men stormed into Jam Master Jay’s recording studio in Queens, New York and killed the Run DMC co-founder and deejay. To date, his murder has not been solved.

Rincon told The New York Daily News that he was at the studio sitting on a couch next to JMJ playing a video game, and that the deejay had a placed a gun he had been carrying on couch's arm prior to the two men storming in.

Rincon said while he was reaching behind the couch to answer his phone, he heard JMJ say “Oh shit” and a gunshot rang out. Rincon would be hit in his left leg and then a second shot followed immediately.

Rincon claims when he turned around, JMJ was on the floor with a gunshot wound to his head and he saw a man with a dark sweater running out of the studio.

Young Buck Allegedly Robbed

Late this weekend, reports on MediaTakeOut.com have swirled that G-Unit rapper Young Buck was robbed of his jewelery outside of Nashville club The Place.

According to these reports, the hometown star was robbed at gunpoint for his diamond necklace, watch and Bentley automobile. No official word has been given, but Young Buck has previously confirmed his ownership of a Bentley.

The rapper, whose latest release Buck The World has reached gold status amidst critical acclaim, was previously involved in retrieving his stolen chain in Chicago over two years ago in another incident. The stolen jewelry was later returned. That incident was chronicled in the DVD Stop Snitchin', Stop Lyin', through testimony by The Game. Former G-Unit affiliate Sha Money XL had also been victim of a jewelry robbery in Queens in 2005.

Although no official release has been sent from Young Buck, G-Unit or Interscope Records, reports have added that the culprit has allegedly offered the stolen goods for sale, with pictures on the internet.

Young Buck has recently been working on a Cashville Records compilation, featuring himself, The Outlawz, C-Bo, and Nashville group 615. Stay tuned to HipHopDX for more information on these reports.

Raekwon & RZA Settle Differences

The argument between him and Rae was just some disagreement. They settled it four days ago. Rae thought the music was too worldly. He wanted a more Punch You In Your Face type album. While RZA’s view was more like we already did that with OB4CLII, which is coming after this. They had to just trust RZA on his view, which even took GZA sometime.

In bigger news RZA responds to the allegations of money taking. He claims to have never taking money from anybody. He has paid all his bills and has no debts. And Rae’s comments had hurt him right in the gut. A bigger press conference thing is coming.

It looks like ‘08 is the year of Dr. Dre. Word is we will see “Detox” in 2008 along with 5 other Aftermath releases, including new albums from Bishop Lamont, Busta Rhymes, Slim, Stat Quo and more. Dre will provide three tracks for Busta’s new album. A new rumored street date of June 3rd for “Detox” is circulating. Word is Dre also has plans for another “Up In Smoke Tour” featuring Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Cube, Bishop Lamont and more in summer 2008.

- I’M SHADY! -

Eminem is comin’ folks! Rumor has his new album in stores March 2008. The rumored first single is called “Pushin’” with a street single preceding it called “King Mathers” feat. Ca$his. The album is tentatively titled “Living Proof: The King Mathers LP.” The album’s first two singles will be produced by Dr. Dre with additional contributions from Scott Storch and Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem.

We've all learn to accept 2008 probably means 200Never for Detox...I guess we shall see...I'm actually surprised Cashis is still on Shady considering Obie & Stat Quo aren't getting much shine.

Young Chris song, 8 Diagrams Download, Wyclef Album, Dead Pres. III, 100 Million Dollars Video & Album Cover, The Future

Thanks for the feedback everyone...it was pretty much unanimous to get rid of the automatic music, so I did. From now on I'll just put a playlist of music and if you want to listen to some music you like or may not have heard of, click on it, if not, continue on.

Got rid of those .gif images on the right side as well cuz I guess they were slowing up people's computers. No more Michael Jackson eatin popcorn and Jim Jones with a stack of money on his head.

Some people mentioned shortening up posts so you can comment right under them and leaving my own input (which I should be doing). It's just tough to comment on everything because of the volume of stuff I post and the lack of time. Half the time I don't even get a chance to listen to the music and read the whole stories I post until a few days later. People also seem to be shy about scrolling all the way down and if I make each update its own post, it just pushes things farther down and on to back pages, which people never look at - I can tell just based off the requests I get that people don't scroll down/look at back pages.

I'll also work on better organizing material I post and see if I can screw with the archives...

Blogspot has limited capabilities so I'm not sure what else I can do to make it more like a "real" or "official" site. Stay tuned...

The Future of the site...

I was just curious if anyone had any comments about what should be added/taken off the site to make it an all around better website experience. Granted, there's only so much you can do with a blogspot.com website, but I'm sure there's room for improvement. I also had a few emails about making a facebook group and/or myspace page specifically for the site with quick updates and links. Also, there it could be more interaction I guess.

I'm always accepting new Banner's for the top of the page because I want to update the look constantly. Other than that, this site is going on around 70,000 hits in two months based on word of mouth etc, so it seems like it's doin ok. Let me know...

Lupe's Next Album will be his Last (yea, right)

I heard in a few songs there you mentioned the name of your next album, L-U-P-End. So I take it you're sticking to your promise of making three albums and then you're out?
Yeah, I think so. I'm 85 percent. My final album is L-U-P-End, and it comes from video games. I love video games, especially Capcom, and you can only put three letters when the game is over — three letters and ''END.''
Do you have a concept for that album yet?
I don't know. I was thinking about having it be very schizophrenic, just all over the place and loaded with features. Or having, like, 10 songs, like back in the day when they'd do 10 songs and be done.

Concert Promoter Wins Case Against Plies

A Montgomery, Alabama concert promoter recently won his lawsuit against Florida rapper Plies for failing to give a scheduled performance earlier this year.

According to The Montgomery Adviser, Plies was slated to take the stage at a Montgomery venue in July but failed to appear. The announcement of the rapper’s no-show agitated the crowd and cause fights among concertgoers.

The concert promoter, Patrick Monfiston, filed his lawsuit in Montgomery County Circuit Court. He sued Plies for breach of contract and slander for making disparaging comments about him on Montgomery’s WZHT Hot-105.

Monfiston did not reveal how much he was awarded by the court but said it would cover the money he paid Plies, advertising and booking fees, and damages caused by the fights.

BMF News

The leader of the Black Mafia Family (BMF) pled guilty yesterday (November 20) to heading a criminal enterprise including drug distribution and money laundering.

BMF honcho Demetrius Flenory, also known as Big Meech, entered his guilty plea in United States District Court in his hometwon city of Detroit, the city from which he hails, before Judge Avern Cohn, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration's official website.

The 39-year-old drug king pin said that from 1990 through 2005 he led BMF in large scale distribution of controlled substances, mainly cocaine, collecting millions of dollars in cash off the sales of narcotics.

He washed the money in real estate purchases and bought vehicles and jewelry with the cash

According to the terms of the plea bargain, Flenory agreed to pay back $270,000,000 and faces 30 years in prison. A sentencing hearing has not been set.

Flenory's brother, Terry Flenory and five other defendants are still scheduled for trial on November 26. 41 defendants have been indicted along with the brothers and 32 have pleaded guilty.

As SOHH previously reported, Jacob the Jeweler (born Jacob Arobov) was arrested on charges of conspiring to commit money laundering of reportedly up to $270 million for BMF through his Jacob & Co. business. He pled to a lesser charge.

PAY BACK 270 Million Dollars??????!! Good luck...

Bravehearts' Wiz Give up Kidney for his Baby Girl

(New York-WABC, November 22, 2007) - A family in Queens has extra reasons to be grateful tonight. A dad and his 5-year-old daughter began the month in the hospital.

But now, both are thriving and the little girl has a new chance at life.

Seven's on call with Dr. Jay Adlersberg.

"I can't pick you up," said father, Micahel Ebbs, to his daughter. "You know that."

Michael Ebbs can't to pick up his daughter Siahra because of his recent surgery. But there's no holding back on the love he has for his little girl.

"You know you love your child but you don't know how deep it is until something like this happens to your family," said Siahra's mother Diana Ayala.

What happened was that Diana and Michael's little girl was very sick.

While now an active and happy child who loves playing with her younger siblings, Siahra was born with a rare kidney abnormality. She lost one kidney when she was 2-year-old, and now was losing the other.

She needed and got a kidney transplant. It came from her dad, Michael.

"It was a no-brainer. My daughter needs it and I'm compatible. I just did it." said kidney transplant donor, Michael Ebbs. "I didn't think twice."

The surgery took place at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell three weeks ago.

One of Michael's kidneys was transplanted into Siahra. Size was not an issue.

"Even in small children like that, we can take an adult kidney and make room inside a small child and have that organ function perfectly," said Dr. Sandy Kapur at NY Presbyterian-Weill Cornell.

Siahra is on medications now and will stay on some the rest of her life. Her new kidney should last 20, maybe 30 years.

Michael, a rap musician known as Wiz, hopes to soon be back to his music.

"So grateful everything is good," said Michael Ebbs.

As for Diana, who would have been splitting her time between dad and Siahara in the hospital and her other children at home, Thanksgiving will be spent with family with someone else doing the cooking.

"We are going to go to my aunt's house and just enjoy the food," said Diana with smile. "I'm still catching up on sleep so no cooking for me maybe Christmas."

There are about 300 children getting kidney transplants this year and not all the donors come from family. Each parent has a fifty percent chance of being a match for their child.

There are, however, some 74,000 adults waiting for donors so they can have a kidney transplant. A wait is typically 5 years, so about 5,000 each year die waiting.

Air Jordan 12 Fusion

The Air Jordan x Air Force 1 Fusion campaign is set to take off relatively soon on the first weekend of January, but had not yet seen photos of any of the other colors of the Air Jordan 12 Fusions until now.

Black/Varsity Red - Taxi - Green Bean. I don't think much else needs to be said. Black with any of those three colors would be a nice color combination, but throw all of them together and you get whats pictured to the right. I try to refrain from bashing products, but seriously who thought that this looked good?

50 Cent Speaks on Ms. West's Death

50 Cent recently offered condolences to fellow rapper Kanye West who lost his mother two weekends ago.

Kanye's mum, Dr. Donda West, died a day after undergoing plastic sugery in Los Angeles on November 10th.

The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office confirmed that Donda died from ‘a possible complication from the surgery’ and the exact cause of her death is still being investigated.

In an interview with the Associated Press on Tuesday (November 20), 50 showed support for Kanye and said that the rapper was making the right decision by touring.

“[It’s] really an unfortunate situation and I hope he can work his way through it,” 50 said. “It's good to see him actually touring. You can work your way back into a comfortable space where you can deal with those situations.”

50 revealed that he advised Lloyd Banks to keep touring when the G-Unit member’s father died.

“I was telling [Banks], `You need to go back and do what you need to do,' and he thought maybe I was a little insensitive,” 50 explained. “ But I can definitely understand how that's a huge loss, and how that would be, and then (Kanye's) relationship with his mom had a lot more depth to it than a lot of people's. He was real close to his mom.”

“I hope that he can work his through his way through it,” 50 added. “ If you're active, you'll find reasons to smile, reasons to be happy.”

Kanye, who launched his European tour last Saturday (November 17) in France, buried his mother in her hometown of Oklahom a on Tuesday (November 20).

Kanye will resume his European tour in London today (November 22).

50 Cent is also currently on a European tour and will perform in France on Saturday (November 24).

We just got the scoop on basically AT&T’s biggest sale of the year, and we have to say, it’s not too shabby! How does, I don’t know, 50% off phones sound? It’s not every phone, just select phones, and the wonderful prices are after mail-in-rebates and 2-year agreements. Here they are:

* Samsung a737 for $24.99
* Sony Ericsson w580i for $24.99
* BlackBerry Curve (8310, not 8300!) for $99.99
* Pantech Duo for $99.99
* Motorola RAZR 2 V9 for $149.99

The promotion is set to start on Black Friday (duh!), but it ends on the following Sunday. You’ve got the whole weekend to take advantage!

On Nov. 24 at 8:00 a.m. Wal-Mart is launching a not-so-secret sale where the 80GB PS3 will price for $499 and come with 10 free Blu-Ray movies.

Yup, just choose any 10 Blu-Ray Disc titles under $30 within the store and they will override the prices to zero.

Oh, and you still get your 5 FREE movies by mail.

In 2003, the Harlem Diplomats had the Hip-Hop world on smash. With the hold they had on the streets and their strong presence in mainstream media it seemed like success was guaranteed for anyone who got down with the 'Set. But, as Dipset's now former first lady Jha Jha would find out, nothing in life is guaranteed.

After the Florida native joined Dipset she made her debut on Jim Jones’ "What You Been Drankin' On." The song got people's attention and after noteworthy features on numerous Diplomat projects such as Jim Jones' "We Fly High" and "Get From Round Me" with Juelz Santana and Cam'ron, she and fans both began to wonder, what's really good? Jha Jha speaks ons on the creation of her own record label, Git It Girl Entertainment, Foxy Brown allegedly biting her music, leaving Dipset and on her intentions of bringing all the images of female wealth and power that are associated with her name to life.

AllHipHop.com: I recently found out that you’ve separated from the Diplomats. What made you want to leave and why now?

Jha Jha: I was never signed to Diplomats. I never had a binding contract. I was with them for like four years. I thought we could work something out but no contracts were ever put on the table. I wrote a record for Diddy, I had a record on MTV Jams countdown, I was writing and producing records and at the end of the day...I guess you can say it came down to creative differences. I wish the Diplomats the best of luck. The good thing about this situation is I don't owe anybody any money. No money was ever spent on me. I bought my own cars I bought my own houses, I paid for my own studio time, anything that you've seen that had to do with Jha Jha I did myself. Because nobody spent any money I can walk away from this scot free. I appreciate everything that we did together but, at the end of the day, business is business.

AllHipHop.com: Some people say you never quit a job unless you have a new one. With that being said, do you have a new deal lined up?

Jha Jha: I started my own company, Git It Girl Entertainment. A lot of labels are showing interest in signing me right now but it's not just about getting a deal, I’m looking for a joint venture. The money is in ownership and branding yourself. As an artist you’re not really making any money. I’m signing myself to my own company and now you have to go through Git it Girl Entertainment to get Jha Jha. A lot of artists don’t know what happens when you sign to these regular deals. You’re getting like $0.06 off an album and then are left wondering why you’re selling 300,000 and still in debt. You’re getting $0.06 and they’re getting like $10 off of you at least. With that deal you’ll have to sell well over a million records just to see a hundred stacks. I think females in the industry are getting the sh*tty end of the stick.

Kanye Admits to GQ that Kanye/50 Battle Was Complete Publicity Stunt

KANYE WEST has revealed his chart battle with rap rival 50 CENT was a publicity stunt he dreamed up to sell records.

The pair went head to head in September (07) when both their albums were released on the same day.

West won after a frenzied media battle he now claims he created.
The Stronger hitmaker comes clean to GQ, stating, "It was a complete publicity stunt. It was my idea. I knew it was going to take off as soon as we were going to come out on the same date.

"Think about it - you got the two biggest s**t-talkers in rap history.
There's no-one in rap history for talking more s**t than me and 50. That's something I will stand on." He adds of 50 Cent's vow to retire if he lost the battle: "Oh man, he sold so many more records by saying that. Man, 50 is really one of my favourite rappers, too. I almost feel bad (about beating him)." West hammered 50 with sales in the U.S. but 50 sold more albums worldwide than his rival.

Congrats to Timbaland

Producer Timbaland is engaged to his girlfriend and publicist, Monique Idlett – and the pair have just welcomed a baby girl, a source close to the rapper tells PEOPLE.

Idlett, 33, gave birth to their daughter just a couple of days ago, according to the source.

Timbaland and Idlett have been dating for two years, and "they're both really happy together," says the source. "They've known each other for years."

The music producer (and pal of Justin Timberlake) proposed at the couple's baby shower in October.

This will be the first marriage for both; Timbaland and Idlett plan to tie the knot within the next year.

Kanye West buried his mother, Dr. Donda West, today in Oklahoma City, Ok.

The ceremony was held at the True Vine Ministry church, which can hold up to 2,500 people. Beyonce and Jay-Z attended the services, and John Legend and Anita Baker performed, according to AccessHollywood.com.

Kanye reportedly broke down inside the church while talking about his mother, saying he wanted her to not "rest in peace, but rest in paradise."

R.Kelly Kicks Ne-Yo off Tour

More drama unfolds with R. Kelly as R&B singer Ne-Yo was suddenly removed from Kelly's latest tour. Kelly's camp cited the lack of a signed contract as the reason for Ne-Yo getting dumped.

Ne-Yo's camp issued a press release about the incident earlier this week, saying Ne-Yo "expressed genuine concern regarding not having the opportunity to complete the tour."

Kelly has been known to have tour trouble. In 2004, he and Jay-Z's conjoined tour came to a halt after Kelly was blasted with pepper spray by a member of Jay-Z's entourage. Jay later said that R. Kelly was a weepy, emotional wreck, prone to crying fits during the duration of their tour. Just recently, Kelly's longtime publicist resigned, citing serious "lines being crossed" as the cause of the split. Somebody is a straight-up diva -- and it ain't Ne-Yo!

Artist Spotlight, Chingy Video, New Ja, Freeway Videos, New Styles P, Saigon Quits Rap, Kanye on GQ, REQUESTS

I'm going to be one the road literally all day today (12 hours give or take)driving from South Carolina to Philly so unfortunately, I'm probably not going to get a chance to update until later. The unfortunate downfall of running a site yourself I guess. Talk to y'all soon...

Artist Spotlight; Incyte (Pittsburgh, PA)

When you think of hip hop in Pennsylvania I bet the first thing your mind shifts to is Philly; Freeway, Beanie Sigel, Cassidy, Young Gunz, The Fresh Prince, The Roots, Jill Scott etc. What about the other major city that dominates Western PA? Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Incyte is out to show the industry that the city of steel is a powerhouse hip-hop city just waiting to blow.

Incyte has been doing music for close to ten years. He has been influenced by various genres of music including rap, rock, & soul and also by artists such as 2Pac, Redman, & Jay Z. Incyte's musical style is feel-good hip hop with an "edge" over eccentric production that incorporates grungy guitar, the warmth of classic R&B, Latin flavors & Philly strings.

His lyricism has even earned the respect of rap legend Method Man while competing in an MC battle in Cancun, Mexico that Meth hosted. With the release of his latest album, The Write Away, he's gained some attention locally through newspapers & Pittsburgh radio station WAMO106.7.

The album also recieved a rave review on hip hop website OKAYPLAYER.COM. Pittsburgh is not well known nationally for it's hip hop music but with a few artists recently signing major label deals (Wiz Khalifa-Warner Bros., Pittsburgh Slim-Def Jam, & Crave-Atlantic), the city is ready to be heard by the masses & Incyte hopes to help do so with his brand of music.

Saigon QUITS Rap Music

This was just posted on his myspace blog

I QUIT........

You see I got into rap a very very long time ago, I didnt do it to become rich, I didnt do it to become famous, I did it because it was a way for me to vent about the bad things that were happening around me, It was therapy for me so to speak.....Ive realized now that sooo many people have gotten into Hip Hop, whether the business aspect or otherwise, its not really for me anymore...First of all, people need to know that I am a contraversal person period, before I ever was in a magazine, on T.V. in a studio, I was very very deep in the street shit...

Contraversy has always followed me, Its unfortunate but it is what it is...Its my life...I dont try to start shit to cause contraversy, its the Media, the press and yall who eat off contraversy who start the shit, try to make me look wild or out of control when Im just being myself....I cant take turning on a computer and seeing my name being thrown around in all kinds of ways, Its not good for me, and not good for these writers, I am accident prone for life, I will take a page out of the Wu Tang book and beat the shit outta one of yall man, youre playing with fire.. Should I post my Rap Sheet on the internet for yall dummies..Im not a regular dude.

I never signed up for this so Im stepping away from this fake shit.....I did a interview on Shade45, the interview was 2 hours long mind you, we talked about EVERYTHING from what we need to do as a people to get on track to economizing and everything but you know whats on all the so called media outlets in boldface as the headline, 'Saigon Disses Whoever'...You know what part of a 2 hr interview they replay? Me saying something about a person...If I woulda said, Ill slap John Hardy Hawkins for his role in the Slave trade, they would never put it in boldface or re run it 1000 times, but If I say Ill slap a rapper or something, Its the headline news of the day....Thats ass backwards to me so Im done...

No more interviews, no more mixtapes, no nothing....Im not a rapper anymore, Im done.. Im back to being regular me...This shit is too fake for me, I found myself getting caught up in the bullshit but now Ill gladly walk away...These people are so predictable that to prove to my niggas who would say my buzz was dying or whatever, I would say 'oh yeah', watch this, then for fun, I would just do an interview and make a comment about someone because I knew they would run back like little bitches who instigate something to get the people talking. Then walah, youre buzz is back, (nevermind the 10 great new songs you just put out)..But its not fun anymore...I look at the Prodigy incident, that started not because of anything but these media outlets...He told me to suck his dick in an INTERVIEW..Then it becomes physical, we both coulda got shot, stabbed or even killed...Had I been with my crew somebody wouldve died in there all over something that started in an INTERVIEW.

Then the same people who instigated it would be talking about how senseless we are..I dont give a fuck if nobody ever does a story on me again..I dont rap anymore, I dont need it anymore... I no longer have to keep pretending to be a certain way to care about a radio spin, or an interview, so I can address these people when I see them like I BEEEEN wanting to, and thats unbiased. NO MOREASS KISSING FOR ME. (Thank God)All of that trying to be politically correct bullshit is just that, bullshit..There is no honor amongst theives...Now I can say what the fuck I want, when I want, however I the fuck I want without people feeling like they have the right to ridicule me, judge me and talk slick about me because I have that word "rapper" attached to me, or because Im a "rapper" who supposed to know how to talk to these fake ass media people who really dont give 2 fucks about hip hop or black culture period. How many of these outlets are owned by black people anyway? I know alot of people dont give a fuck about me stepping away, some people might but so what, its a wrap...Some people will say I was wack anyway lol, or I never had punchlines or funny metaphores anyway, but that wasnt my thing anyway....

I left enough great music behind for people to understand I was good at rapping, thats all I ever wanted out of it, But now Im back on my bullshit...I have no KIDS, I have nothing to lose. My purpose for even starting this was trying to get black people out of the stages of deaf, dumb and blindness and with the way of the world today thats a fight I probably couldve never won anyway...I wouldve given my life trying to save my people and died in vein like alot of people did...And to that rapper thats throwing my name around, U must be retarted or like hospital food or something, we have BEEF homie, not rap beef, beef beef..I have nothing more to say about that....Fuck this bum ass rap game anyway, its full of fake ass niggaz who pump poison to the kids, make a few dollars and act like theyre larger then life when they know their music is detrimental to their fucking communities, If it aint about sex, its about drugs or violence, where are the songs about getting an eduacation, or being responsible parents and shit, or stopping the Gang Violence...

This shit is sickening......Im done.....SAIGON IS DEAD...Should I say Ill slap a rapper so they run and put it in all their news section and gossip columns..Okay Ill slap the shit outta EVERY Rapper hows that....I QUIT, now I gotta figure out how Im gonna break this to Just Blaze......THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD=Prophecy......

Lil Romeo Gets Full Ride to USC for Basketball

Rapper Lil' Romeo, whose real name is Romeo Miller, has received a full ride scholarship to play basketball for USC. Rapper turned hooper!

Romeo, 18, will be graduating from Beverly Hills High School as an honor student this spring and will attend USC in the fall. He will sign his letter of intent today at a press conference at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

Lil' Romeo has basketball in his blood -- his dad is rapper Master P, who signed with two NBA teams in the late '90s, but was released both times during pre-season. Unnggh! Na Na Na Na!

I've read different opinion that his playing is very overrated and did not deserve the accolades given to him, but regardless, he did his thing. If you're hating on a kid trying to get an education and play a Division I sport then you're just ignorant.

"Your nerd game is heavy"
"If he(Saigon) wants to get a camera and shoot the one we can do that"-Joe Budden

Someone from SOHH.com Got a chance to go to a listening session for Mood Muzik III and had this to say (not specific, but overall general statement about album)

Mood Musik 3 is worth the anticipation ladies and gentlemen. It is hosted by DJ On Point and is light on features, (Joell Ortiz, R&B newcomer Emany) but heavy on lyrics.

I was invited for the first listening session at a studio in New Jersey. After what I heard on a Saturday night, calling Mood Musik 3 a mixtape would be an understatement. All new original songs, no rapper A spitting over rapper B’s hit single. No recycled bars. This is nothing less than an autobiographical soundtrack of Joe Budden.

In my opinion of is one of the best albums I’ve heard in the past few years. Being that I only had a one time listen all the way through to give a song-by-song review would be unfair. I will say fans and haters alike that still understand what the essence of Hip Hop is will not be disappointed. The beats were straight head nodders and I focused to catch the words over the instrumentals. As expected MM3 has the profound lyrics his fans have come to respect as Joe leaves no stone unturned in what his life has been in the past year. He talks about the hip hop battle he missed a couple of months ago, the battle he’s currently engaged in and has a sick story telling song gone wrong that will have all hitting the rewind button. A special tribute to Stack Bundles is also included. The flow is hungry, the punchlines are crazy and the songs are so deep that you will be forced to listen again and again. Musically, the backdrop behind the bars is truly astonishing. The intoxicating productions are mostly done by newcomers Klassiks and WMS Sultan. The tracks are as brash as they are refreshing, mixing big drums with soulful sounds that truly complement Joe’s flow. This album separates true artists from just dudes who can rap, and honestly these one-dimensional cats have to step their game up. It’s not about hating on one particular coast or style of music it just comes down to recognizing true lyricism and emcees that just get in the booth and really go in. The wait was well worth it. Mood Musik 3 is scheduled to drop in December 07 and it will be distributed worldwide officially as well. You can pre order your copy at: http://www.myspace.com/mood3 -- Doug

Closer Views of Kanye on Stage Crying

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dame Dash Owes 2 million in taxes to New York

Rap mogul and former Jay-Z business partner Damon Dash owes the state of New York over $2 million in taxes.

According to the New York Post, the former CEO and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records lays claim to an estimated $50 million fortune but has come up short on his tax payments.

Some of the 36-year old's possessions include a $400,000 Maybach sedan with a chauffeur, several diamond-encrusted watches and over 1,000 pairs of sneakers.

As SOHH previously reported, Dash filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against his accountant in April for submitting several years of erroneous tax returns on his behalf.

On the music front, Dash recently hosted the new Jim Jones mixtape "Harlem's American Gangster," a jab at Jay-Z's American Gangster, an album inspired by the hustler biopic of the same name.

New Clipse Interview

With just two major label releases over the course of five years and one legendary unreleased album from 1997, Clipse’s career spans across a decade and a millennium. They redefined hip-hop and defined coke rap before Jeezy was moving keys, but around the same time T.I. was just starting to get his trap on. They have, up until recently, been a canvas for arguably the biggest production duo in hip-hop and with their new imprint they plan on continuing the masterpiece that is Clipse. Pusha T, one half of Clipse and one fourth of the Re Up Gang, talks deals, movies and his favorite Clipse song.

“When P gets excited about a new song, he will hit me and be like, ‘Come to the studio right now, if you don’t get here within five minutes, I’m calling Jay-Z.’”

Format: So how did this new deal with Columbia come about?
Pusha T: When we put out Hell Hath No Fury, we were already talking to Jive about letting us go. Us being there wasn’t good for both parties. As soon as they let the project go, there was flurry of offers from different labels. Hip-hop from Columbia hollered at our manager, Tony Draper. He took a flight to Houston to see us and was like, ‘Are you guys free? Is it really true?’ Rick Rubin was totally interested. They knew the history. They knew the ups and downs. They started selling us on them trying to win with us, so on and so forth. But truth be told, we were on the phone with Interscope until the last minute on some eleventh hour shit. It was us, Jimmy Iovine and Pharrell. They were trying to get it done, but when we told them what was on the table with Columbia, Jimmy and P were like, ‘Your deal is better.’ P said, ‘You need to sign that deal.’ So we are no longer with Star Trak, but the Neptunes are still going to be involved with the new project. We will always be cool and there were definitely no hard feelings.

Format: Clipse’s first album, Exclusive Audio Footage was supposed to come out in 1998 but never saw the light of day. If you look around, you can find it on the Internet. Will it ever come out? How has Clipse changed since then?
Pusha T: The content of the Clipse hasn’t really changed since 1998. Nothing has really changed. It’s still coke rap, but we didn’t call it that back then. It was just life. Now, I guess, there’s a whole genre of it. But it was Neptunes produced and it was definitely pushing the bar, musically. It was a very theatrical album. It was a little more movie-esque than our other two albums.

Kanye West - The Samples

Posted by my boy Kevin Nottingham:
Betcha didn’t think I’d do Part 2, huh? It’s been almost 3 months since I posted the first batch of Kanye West samples and it has since become the most popular post on this site. So, long overdue, here is Part 2. I tried to stay clear of samples from his solo albums. Since I already posted the samples from his latest CD, Graduation, I plan to eventually compile College Dropout and Late Registration samples. I also stayed clear of any samples he did for Jay-Z as most of those were on The Blueprint anyway.

This post has some nice gems though with samples he used for The Game, Nas, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Slum Village, Mariah Carey, and Janet Jackson.

Go on over to this site to check out the samples Kanye Flipped to make the crazy tracks he makes for all the artists he works with:

Kanye West Breaks Down to Tears on Stage..UPDATE VIDEO

Kanye Crying on Stage

Only a week after his mother's death, Kanye West returned to the concert stage Saturday night in Paris, only to dramatically break down in tears, audience members tell PEOPLE.

Nearing the end of the more than 60-minute performance, with the riff of "Hey Mama" beginning, West attempted to introduce the tribute to a sold-out crowd at Le Zénith in Paris, saying "this song is for my mother...." and could get no further.

"He just cracked," one attendee tells PEOPLE, "He was at the end of his concert and had just started to dedicate the song and then he just lost it completely."

"He said the word, 'Mother' and just couldn't go any further," Le Parisien journalist Meddy Magloire said. "A back-up singer, the DJ and a guitar player came over to console him. It looked like he might collapse. He just couldn't continue. He just stood there in a spotlight, crying while the band continued playing."

After a few moments of stunned silence, Magloire says, the audience of 5,000 reacted by offering calls of encouragement, which grew into applause.

The band restarted the song, but West left the stage, returning after 10-15 minutes to conclude the concert with a rousing performance of "Stronger."

"He was very nervous, seemed to have gathered himself up, and had a lot of energy," Magloire says. "He kept shouting out to the audience, 'I need you... I need you right now.' and the public was screaming back. It was magic."

Surprise Appearance
West had been reclusive since death of his mother. He cancelled a Victoria's Secrets performance on Thursday and was not at the memorial for her in Chicago on Friday.

His arrival in Paris at the Hotel Le Meurice on Friday, accompanied by fiancée Alexis Phifer and her son, was unexpected, coming just hours after another scheduled concert set for Monday in Amsterdam was officially cancelled.

West is scheduled to perform in Brussels on Sunday night. It's now expected he will return to the United States for his mother's funeral in Oklahoma City on Tuesday afternoon before returning to Europe to perform in London on Thursday.

C.A.S.H. – an acronym for “Clif, A Straight Hustla’” – was born and raised in Oakland, Ca. Growing up, C.A.S.H. had a unique experience, going from a private catholic school in elementary, to a public middle and high school. Traveling from high school where drugs and violence were a standard, to a neighborhood where drugs and violence was non-exsistent created a very stressful life for a young man growing into adulthood. After several years of being influenced by Jay-Z, E-40, Tupac, B.I.G., and T.I., C.A.S.H. was put on to artists like Kanye West, Common, Lupe Fiasco, and Little Brother. C.A.S.H. realized that he could create Hip Hop music that reflected his life, and not come off like a sucka emcee. Having never lived the life of a drug dealer, gangsta, and not wanting to be contained in the box of a "back pack rapper", C.A.S.H. is carving a lane of his own. C.A.S.H. represents the Hustle for anyone and everyone trying to rise up in the world. With a style that's fresh, raw, comical, and introspective at times, C.A.S.H. is on the rise in the Hip Hop.

Lupe Fiasco - The Coolest (mixtape) (click to enlarge pic with tracklist)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Listen: Lupe Fiasco's "The Cool"
Posted Thu. Nov 15, 8:21 PM ET by Brandon Perkins in The URB Blog

Jay-Z gave Patron shots and insight to his inspirations. Kanye West provided popcorn and novelty sun glasses in a rented movie theatre. On Wednesday night, Lupe Fiasco didn't seem to give a damn.

The listening session is approaching industry standard for albums that generate any sort of anticipation, especially in the increasingly leak-leery hip-hop world. Lupe Fiasco's sophomore album, The Cool, is certainly relevant to today's hip-hop and he's petrified of his album being downloaded for free. His debut record suffered from a few leaks and thus tweaks, but still found its way on many writers Top 10 lists for 2006. But at the Sunset Marquis, in Los Angeles, Lupe offered little to no discernment about the complicated cast of characters that make up his new concept album. In fact, he turned the lights low and the music way up before turning his back to the audience of about 20 without injecting anything into his nearly 80-minute record. Here's a track-by-track recap:

1. Baba Says Cool For Thought
A spoken word intro by Iesha Jaco, it carefully depicts the ills of the world. And here we go.

2. Free Chilly (ft. Sarah Green and Gemstones)
OK, here we don't go. The second track offers hope to the apocalyptic-theme of the first introduction, but still no Lupe.

3. Go Go Gadget Flow
At double time speed, Lupe comes out firing Midwest pride over a powerful bow striking simply against strings. It's a quick fire introduction from the MC and he begins mouthing the words while still facing the giant projection of his album cover and rather grim artwork in a steady loop. With his hands, he orchestrates and emphasizes the idiosyncrasies in the production...something he'll do with great fervor throughout the session. He has yet to engage anyone in the room and the back of his head is all we get.

4. The Coolest
Here comes the concept. The Cool is an expansion of the same-named song on Food & Liquor about Michael Young History, or the spiritual manifestation of him as a character called The Cool (if I'm reading this print out right), who was a hustler come back to life. The other characters are The Game (a deviously sexy female with dollar signs in her eyes, no relation to the former G-Unit member) who is married to The Streets (imagine Wyclef as a wannabe rapper from the Dirty Dirty, gold fronts and all; no relation to the snarky British emcee). "The Coolest" is perfectly indicative of the macabre premise and its complexly construed cast: haunted house piano, Tim Burton violin crawls and slightly scary choirs mix for a measured amount of drunkenness.

5. Superstar (ft. Matthew Santos)
The first single is also the first track with a Chris Martin Impersonator (CMI), but he'll return. An impossible earworm, "Superstar" coyly turns a VIP line into those waiting at heaven's gate. Look closely at the video for an appearance from The Streets and The Game.

6. Paris, Tokyo
While Lupe caught some flack for his not-really-liking-A-Tribe-Called-Quest admission, it's quite obvious that his producers--mostly Soundtrakk--have heard Midnight Marauders a few times. "Paris, Tokyo" tells the tale of the newly famous's globetrotting adventures while simultaneously falling in love. Breezily floating along, it's a familiar second album story from an artist who suddenly finds himself being recognized in Japan or France after a successful debut LP.

7. Hi-Definition (ft. Snoop Dogg and Pooh Bear)
A vicious syth hits the beginning of this track, screaming the end of the tiresome "Paris, Tokyo" and perhaps the third single. The constantly mutating production of "Hi-Definition" is something akin to a DJ Shadow beat, but like Lupe does throughout The Cool, he completely ignores its changes. Lupe seemingly raps with his head down, even as his hand gestures in this listening session are intently concentrated on the beat's intricacies. I can't wait for the Ludacris remix of this could-be burner.

8. Gold Watch
There's a sufficiently head-nodding piano and bass explosions on "Gold Watch" that's completely overwhelmed by a claustrophobic vocal snippet that refuses to go away. The song focuses on the newly acquired successes and riches that come with fame, paying special attention to the designers, gadgets and the weight of such possessions. However, that damn vocal sample dominates everything...and not positively.

9. Hip-Hop Saved My Life (ft. Nikki Jean)
Apparently Michael Young History is from Houston. "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" is about the struggle and passion of an up-and-coming rhymer who deals with the highs ("1100 MySpace friends") and the lows ("can't pay the producer, so he has to remove the hot song from his page"). With the exception of a screwed vocal sample in the first verse and a black Cadillac on D's, there's little reference to the hometown H-town connection.

10. Intruder Alert (ft. Sarah Green)
It's getting hot in here. The studio's doors are shut for optimum sound potential and the air is stale. Between the smog-laced carbon dioxide exhaled by a room full of Los Angelites and all the machinery cooking, the room is starting to get oppressive. There's a classical piano racing across "Intruder Alert" and I'm pretty sure it's got some heavy ish, as words like "famine" and "homeland" occasionally perk my ear, but half way through, it's already becoming redundant. Apparently the Playstation that's playing Lupe's album agrees, as it overheats and quits, awaking a confused Lupe from his trance-like state of his own music.

11. Streets On Fire
After the PS3 restart, the beat begins by promising an anticipatory build-up to some anthemic level of excitement, but it never climaxes and Lupe starts rhyming about AIDS.

12. Little Weapon
This is Lupe's song about kids with guns. Right after the song with the AIDS verse, it's happy times. Darting between the kids in the Middle East with the AK-47s and the kids in the Midwest with the trench coats and the kids in the streets who "can't read the words that are on their own graves," Lupe daftly tackles a tough topic without much of the grandstanding moralizing that permeates most of this record.

13. Gotta Eat
More moody broody steel string plucks. More moralizing. More towering choir vocals. The first overt comic book reference, however.

14. Dumb It Down
Lupe skips this song in the session. But his metaphors are pretty crazy on the verses. Here's the video

15. Hello/Goodbye (Uncool) (ft. UNKLE)
It feels like a fat-handed knuckle sandwich of sound right in the face. There isn't much white space on the entire record, but this collaboration with UNKLE and Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme (does anything spell pretentious sophomore album better than UNKLE and QOTSA?) is almost unbearable. There's a pretty cool Rage Against The Machine bass guitar solo for a Headbanger's Ball with a backpack moment, but I'm not sure I can breathe now.

16. The Die
Lupe can rhyme fast. With the soulful sample, lofting beat and light speed bars, this track would've fit perfectly on Twista's Kamikaze, but unfortunately, Lupe's Chi-Town comrade doesn't make an appearance. The Cool (the character) gets shot and dies at the end of "The Die" while listening to a Lupe song and his homie is taking a leak. Seems appropriate.

17. Put You On Game
Another macabre piano and orchestral string touches and rhymes about humanity's horribleness...this might be the best of the bunch, but at this point, who really knows?

18. Fighters (ft. Matthew Santos)
The CMI shows up again...this time over a sample that sounds like it came from the Stereolab catalog. It's pretty.

19. Go Baby
Even if Lupe doesn't listen to Tribe, it's apparent that he liked the Gnarls Barkley record. This cut is "for the ladies" and exists primarily as an extended hook and adlibish bits about extra cheese. This is the end of the record. And my blog. I could've used some Patron shots for that.

Saigon (drunk) threatens to punch Nelly & Melysaa Ford in the face

http://www.zshare.net/audio/493771956d596b/

Saigon Posted this on his myspace this morning:

Well it looks like Ive been in the Hip Hop internet news alot for the past 3 days or so, atleast its bubbling under the surface..So before your'e reading something on AllHipHop.com rumors section or getting something from one of these irresponsible journalist or something youre gonna get it here straight from the horses mouth.....Okay..Gotta Love the Net.....

MY DRUNK SHADE 45 INTERVIEW...
I was soooo drunk when I did this interview I didnt even remember doing it, this interview was done at 8 PM and I was 4 A.M drunk.. I have a very LOW tolerance for white liquor. Well there is a part where I said I would slap Nelly because he doesn't make positive songs...I actually like Nelly as a person and as an artist ...I would never attempt to cause harm to a person who didnt try to harm me first in some sort of way, especially a person I respect and I respect Nelly...That was solely the Tanqueray speaking...I definitely would like to apologize to that man, Keep up the good work bruh, even though I would like to hear him and alot of these other MEGA superstars use their influence more to help our black kids, I wish him the best...Moving right along..In this same interview I supposedly told Melissa Ford I would punch her in the face, hahaha, after review I found it was NOT Melissa Ford, Melissa was there but it was a writer who had already interviewed me about the Mobb Deep incident and agreed with me about the stance I took, but gets the chance to interview me on the radio and changes her whole story to try to play me to make people laugh...I would NEVER hit a girl, especially Melissa Ford, there is only one way I would hit Melissa Ford...But Im really not the one to be the butt of ones jokes.

MR.JOE BUDDEN
It has been bought to my attention that Joe Budden used my name in a disrespectful way in one of his punchlines on B.E.T., I understand he's not getting the attention he feels he deserves but to try to use me to get it is a BAD MOVE on his part..I guess he's trying to bait me into a rap battle like he's known for doing..I have never had a lyrical rap beef because its not my thing. I beef a little differently. I know I just said I woudnt harm a person who didnt try to harm me but I feel he's trying to harm my credibilty soooo..If I let him get away with that, EVERYONE will be dissing me in there freestyles, so again, Im gonna say sorry to Nelly and tell Joe Budden that when I see him, Im going to slap EARTH, WIND and FIRE out of HIM instead. REAL TALK..I will make an example out of him, watch.. I want him to know we have a problem, because when I see him he's all smiles and pounds, is he that desperate for attention? Why me? Im not even hot like that yet. Maybe he's mad I have a song with the same guy who dropped him, or that Ransom exposed his sexuality....I use to live in Chilltown Jersey city, I dont know if he's gay but I know he WAS a RnB singer...And personally, I will let him be my first lyrical victim if that's what he wants, but only after I beat him up. Soo he can go making his songs and get his internet soldiers behind him, but until I get him, Im quiet.. realistically speaking, he's only okay at best...and him without a Just Blaze beat is like Popeye without spinach...whadduup Just..

SPEAKING OF JUST BLAZE
Me and Just are finally turning in the album to Atlantic this week, we never really had a date because the label usually gets the album before they do all that, Were trying to release it on Just B-Day, I said TRYING, there is red tape ya know, And if you dont know Just B-Day, do ya homework and find out......The album in a word is Phenomenal.........Real talk...

THE MORAL OF THE STORY
The Moral Of the Story is out now and selling fast so go to E Bay and get it, Its the only place you can get the Official one with the bonus MUSIC....hahahaha, Its only on E BAY so youll get it within 2 days 3 the most......Its crazy. The Moral also has a Novel that comes with it, its called Honor Amongst Thieves so google that or go to AbandonedNation.com and pick that up

SAIGON AND TRU LIFE TO MAKE GROUP ALBUM
I know alot of yall are saying we havent even dropped albums so who even would care, but what we do know is we both have classic albums recorded..hahahah We have forseight, we have the streets... We have, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Just Blaze, Dead Prez, Neo the Matrix, DJ Premier, Kanye West, Gee Roberson, Al Branch, Jo Jo Capone and a slew of other people who love and support us, weve been friends before rap so its onlly right we do this, Its bigger than a mixtape, were starting a SUPER crew...Ghetto Inmates and Abandoned Nation together is an uncotrollable force in the streets of NY...These other crews are gonna be SICK, and were gonna teach these black babies...The name of the crew will be unleashed soon...Stay on the lookout for that....

Thanks for whoever read all this ....This is cool, who needs to do interviews anymore, yall can get it straight from the source...Send questions here......hahaha

This saigon is a nut...pure comedy...haha

Lil Eazy E Claims Lil Wayne is a Fake Blood

It’s no secret that Cash Money heads’ Lil Wayne and Birdman represent a certain “gang affiliation;” seen in every photo-op, video shoot and television appearance wearing red and sporting red bandanas. As some might let this slide in belief that it’s a “style” or “fashion statement,” one Compton rapper is taking offense.

Apparently, Lil Eazy-E (son of the legendary Eazy-E), is sick and tired of the “fake gangbanging” occurring in hip hop these days.

“First of all, let me start off by saying much love to all my Crips, Pirus and Bloods out there that have lived and shed blood for what they believe in and represent; but all this extra fake gangbanging going on is really getting out of hand. I’m seeing this nigga Baby on 3 songs Blooding and Li Wayne ‘soowooping’ at the awards. Enough is enough. This don’t have nothing to do with them Blooding; if they was Cripping I would have the same reaction,” Lil Eazy-E said via a statement to DubCNN.

“Those of us that are true to this need to stand up and say enough is enough. I got homies who are in jail, fighting for their lives and homes who are RIP behind this thang. And for those fools who are clowning and making a mockery of us; I’m telling you no more … This is part of the problem as to why the West is not winning right now. These niggas have taken our style and way of life and are destroying it. Well I have had enough. For every action there is a reaction.”

It’s looking like the Roc Boys are definitely in the building, as Memphis Bleek and company have put together a Roc Boys mixtape with DJ Green Lantern and A&R Lenny S.

“We’re putting out a Roc Boys mixtape with everybody from Rocafella,” Memphis Bleek told HipHopGame. “It’s with Green Lantern and my man Lenny S. They got Jay in the studio doing a freestyle. The tape should be out next week. It’s called The Roc Boys and it’s got everybody from Rocafella.

You’re going to hear joints from everybody and there are a lot of new joints. We’re letting people know the Roc Boys are back. We’re trying to do a Roc Boys album. I did four joints with Uncle Murder and Tru Life.

I got two joints with Beans. We got about six joints ready for the album. This is something that we’re doing. Jay don’t have a part in this. Jay heard about the mixtape and came to the studio after his show last night and said, ‘Hey, I need to be a part of this.’ This is all us doing it. We’re doing this ourselves.”
Memphis Bleek said the mixtape should be out this week.

Just Blaze Speaks on Freeway, Busta Rhymes and Flipmode

From His Blog:

i had more time lately.. but I don’t.

5 more days for mastering and loose ends to tie up… and then we are off to the races.

I’m tired and rambling. But i have to say/post SOMETHING..

hmm… let’s see. The Sai sampler tape should be out next week. I’m actually contemplating putting it out on ACTUAL tapes. The clear joints with the gold spindles. I think TEAC used to make those.

What else.. well.. I worked on like 6 of the 10 albums that tied elvis? or 7. I don’t know. That’s very cool tho. If I had kids I could tell them about that when they got older. I guess it’s not too late yet.

Ahh. of course the Freeway thing came and went. I think I read something where someone said they weren’t suprised I didn’t say anything because they have heard so many stories about how shady I am.. or something like that… funny..To be honest.. it was just a lot to type.. and I may do it eventually but for now I have bigger fish to fry… also I would kind of feel bad putting it all out there like that. The man has enough to deal with with an album coming out any day . It’s not some super ether material.. just a situation that if people knew what happened, they’d be looking at him like.. "huh? well.. allllrighty then". It’s just kinda one of those things where people really just ..forget hmm.. let’s see… I gues they just forget period. I mean… let’s see .. if I didn’t "chirp back".. where did that record that ended up becoming Fab’s "Return of the Hustle" come from… the one with the Biggie scratches.. it’s on HipHopGame somwhere.. what about "Never Like this" and hmm.. I can’t rememebr the other one. We did like 4 in 2 days.. Like i said I’m tired. Anyway.. l’m not gonnna get into it much but I heard about something said on Envy’s show the other day on Hot 97. All I’m saying is this. Next time someone tries to gas you into talking about that again.. if you decide to feed into it or whatever, tell them the actual story. The WHOLE story. The $10,000 story. I mean that’s not going to be a good look either but at least its the truth. Don’t forget who did what for you when nobody was checking for you. I did zero wrong in that situation, and from day one was down for your cause when a lot of our other folks weren’t. Things got a little twisted, and one of your folks got out of line. He manned up about it, we peaced it and moved on. That should have been it right there.. Stop feeding into the BS and the gassing, that’s how this ended up this way in the first place.

Hopefully I can leave it at that.

PS Nextel Sucks… ain’t nobody chirped since 98

I wish I had the energy to share my ODB stories.. (Yes I have plenty of random rapper run-ins from my earlier days, some with songs to match.)

Maybe later this week I will be able to put that together. The Dirty sessions might have been my most insane ever.

Put it like this.. it was Me, Dirt, Crazy Sam (yes, from Video Music Box), some random drugs, and a VERY frightened engineer.

Man… LOL

RIP Ason Unique

Oh yeah. this Flipmode/FMS thing?? That’s a downer. I was actually speaking to Bus not long ago and asked about how Ramp was doing.. I didn’t get any indication of any bad blood or ill vibe at all. Had nothing but good things to say really… I guess the reason it really bothers me is because earlier in my career, aside from Roc… maybe even a bit before Roc, Fiipmode was like extended family for me and I had a lot of love for all of them. Still do of course.. so it’s like ugh.. can’t ANY of us get it together and hold it down? Hmm.. during that same convo with Bus, we actually jumped on the phone with ex-Flipmode member Roc Marciano, who apparently had just finally reconnected with Busta after some time of them being at odds and we talked about doing a record together. Was really good to see them back in touch after all that time. I always thought Roc Marce was super ill.. I remember they were gona do a Cham/Marce album. kinda like a new Rae N Ghost tag-team type of feel.. They def had the joints to pull it off.. dont know… I do know i shouldnt be typing this tired tho. .. whatever .

Bye

Jay-Z Hates the Dollar

Rapper Jay-Z appears to be endorsing the euro
Wads of dollar bills are usually as much a part of rap videos as fast cars, diamond-encrusted jewellery and scantily-clad models.

But in an apparent nod to the low value of the dollar, rapper Jay-Z's new video Blue Magic features another currency.

He is seen cruising the streets of New York in Bentleys and Rolls Royces (now owned by Germany's Volkswagen and BMW) with a briefcase of 500 euro notes.

It follows reports that the supermodel Gisele Bündchen also favours euros.

The catwalk star's twin sister and manager Patricia told Bloomberg in September that: "Contracts starting now are more attractive in euros because we don't know what will happen to the dollar."

The US currency has been ticking off historic lows over the past few months as falling US interest rates make other currencies more attractive.

It recently passed $2.10 to the pound, reached parity with the Canadian dollar and set an all-time record of $1.4752 to the euro.

Other more conventional market-watchers have also been snubbing the dollar, including the billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

There have been no suggestions that Jay-Z's fellow rapper 50 Cent could be considering a move into a different currency.

50 Cent News

EXCLUSIVE | Curtis tells MTV about mentor Eminem, collaborating with Kanye West and reveals all about his next album…

50 Cent has spoken to MTV Base News while on tour in the UK and revealed all about life as the most controversial rapper on the planet.

Covering everything from his battle with Kanye West earlier this year to the sound of his new album Before I Self Destruct, we gave Curtis a good grilling.

“The tour is great Im really enjoying myself,” he said while at the 02 Arena. “Ive had to make some minor changes because Ive been using a live band in parts… its a really different show to anything Ive done before- Theres a lot more showmanship.”

When talking about playing concerts across the globe 50 turned to his mentor Eminem and revealed why Shady rarely tours:

“Ive toured more than him because he has Hailey and he likes to physically be at the house,” he told MTV Base News. “A lot of people dont know the reason behind him touring less- but Hailey would but boxes in front of the door thinking this would stop him going.”

“He (Eminem) would fly back on a private plane after the show so he could drive her to school in the morning so for him the tour was exhausting.”

50 Cent also told us about what could be his final studio album Before I Self Destruct. Rumour has it hes collaborated with Kanye West on the album, so we had to ask…

“This album is more aggressive and darker- Ill produce something that hands down will be the best record of that time period. Theres no duet with me and Kanye,” he said. “There was a track that I created and Kanye produced but its not made it to the album.”

And when asked about double standards with swearing on records Fiddy said: “Matter a fact my next single Im going the start it ‘Its Britney *****.”

Mos Def Working with Kanye for New Album

Freshly signed to Downtown Recordings, rapper Mos Def is in the studio working on a new album.

According to Downtown head Josh Deutsch, Kanye West will produce some tracks on the as-yet-untitled record. Mos Def recently appeared on the track "Drunk and Hot Girls" from West's new Def Jam album, "Graduation."

Deutsch tells Billboard.com Downtown has no plans to reissue last year's "Tru3 Magic," Mos Def's swan song for Geffen. The set was pushed back numerous times and eventually appeared with no fanfare in late December. It has sold just 86,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Barry Bonds Indicted on perjury, obstruction charges!!!

SAN FRANCISCO -- Major League Baseball's all-time home run king Barry Bonds was indicted Thursday on perjury and obstruction justice charges, according to KTVU reporter Rita Williams.

The five-count indictment -- four counts of perjury and one of obstruction of justice -- capped one of the longest federal grand jury investigations in Northern California history -- a proceeding that introduced the sports world to the acronym BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) and led to the downfall of American track and field world and Olympic champions Marion Jones, Kelli White and Tim Montgomery.

It touched the NFL with several current and former players called to testify including former All-Pro linebacker Bill Romanowski.

It also sparked the ongoing debate surrounding Major League Baseball and its problems with athletes taking performance enhancing drugs. It's a debate that has gone to such lengths that the home run ball that Bonds ripped out of AT&T Park to break Hank Aaron's all-time record was headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame tattooed with an asterisk.

The indictment indicated that investigators had obtained "positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances for Bonds and other professional athletes."

The charges against Bonds stem from his Dec.4, 2003 grand jury testimony when he allegedly testified that he did not knowingly take performance enhancing drugs. Armed with the positive drug tests and other testimony, Bonds was pressed several times during his grand jury testimony on whether he knew he used performance-enhancing drugs.

Details on the case

Kanye West is devastated and seemingly "in denial" after a botched plastic surgery likely led to the sudden death of his beloved mother, friends told the Daily News.

The rapper, who has been in Europe on tour with his album "Graduation," needed several days to gather the strength to fly back to the U.S., family friends said.

Adding to the tragedy, a friend says, the Grammy-winning rapper didn't think his mom, Donda West, needed any physical improvement - much less radical cosmetic surgery.

"I don't think Kanye was aware Donda was getting the surgery, or certainly the extent of it," a family friend said. "He loved and supported her just the way she was. He thought she was beautiful."

Donda West, 58, died on Saturday at a Los Angeles hospital just 24 hours after receiving a breast reduction and tummy tuck from Dr. Jan Adams, a well-known TV doctor with a hidden history of DUI convictions and six-figure medical-malpractice judgments.

The coroner is investigating "complications of surgery" as the cause. An official determination won't be made for weeks.

"Donda had image issues, like a lot of women," said the friend, to whom Donda West had confided in recent weeks.

A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday in Oklahoma City, according to the family friend.

Adams performed the surgery on Kanye's mom at a low-rent storefront clinic perched above a FedEx Kinko's store in a West Los Angeles strip mall, according to an address provided by the Los Angeles County coroner. The clinic, Brentwood Surgery Center, still had a display promoting Adams' skincare products on a faux Grecian column yesterday.

Adams, 53, was the chief surgical resident at Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital from 1989 to 1990. He remained in hiding yesterday after offering his "deepest condolences" to Kanye's family in a statement released Tuesday.

The Medical Board of California already was seeking to revoke or suspend Adams' license over two drunken-driving arrests in 2002 and last year that led to convictions.

Adams also was ordered to pay two separate malpractice judgments of $217,337 and $250,000 in 2001.

Alicia Keys did not perform because she only got 11,000 out of 15,000 dollars.

Alicia Keys didn't go to her own party Tuesday night.

Club promoters had rented out the nightclub Pacha in midtown to fete the beauty's new album, "As I Am," and had allegedly negotiated her appearance to the tune of $15,000. But missing money kept the singer circling the block for nearly an hour while the promoters hustled to find $4,000 to get Keys out of her car and into the club, says our source.

Alicia was slated for a midnight arrival, but by the time 1:30 a.m. rolled around, her bodyguards, friends and even boyfriend were all inside waiting for her. Outside, Keys drove around the neighborhood.

"These promoters were digging in their pockets, looking for cash, and were still short," said another source. "The owner of the club even offered to pay the remainder of the owed money himself, just to get her in the club."

That's where fans who'd paid $25 a pop were waiting, says the spywitness: "One eight-months-pregnant lady, who is an Alicia Keys superfan, showed up and waited for hours just to see her."

Keys' manager, Jeff Robinson, told us, "This is the first I've heard of that," when we asked him about the lack of payment. "I never heard she was getting paid at all."

Then why did Alicia not go inside even to meet her boyfriend?

"Well, there was a lot of mismanagement by these club promoters, and that's about all I know," Robinson told us.

Keys' fans got the shortest end of the stick, as many went home dejected after missing their idol. Usually devoted to her fans, Keys may have had no idea that the people at the club had paid to see her.

Meanwhile, in a revealing interview in the new Entertainment Weekly, she says she has found it hard to trust people.

"Ever since I was little, I always felt like if people knew about me, they'd be able to use it against me," Keys explains. "I've just always been like, ‘If you don't know about me, there's nothing you can say to destroy or hurt me.' So, moving into a career where people are always prying, my instinct has always been to close up.

"I discovered a lot about myself I didn't like. I would look in the mirror, and I didn't know who that person was. I didn't like my eyes; I didn't like what they said. I couldn't sleep. I was uncomfortable all the time, and irritated and frustrated."

She can sleep now - in fact, when the promoters finally came up with the money and called her, she was at home in bed.

According to a statement released today, critically-acclaimed Atlanta MC Killer Mike has partnered with Bay Area-based label SMC Recordings to distribute his own label, Grind Time Official.

After releasing his debut Monster on OutKast’s Aquemini label and briefly playing a key role in Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon label, Mike struck out on his own in 2004 by establishing his own label and roster of new artists. With no distribution, Grind Time had several successful underground mixtape releases, including I Pledge Allegience To The Grind and The Killer.

The first release under the new partnership with SMC will be I Pledge Allegience To The Grind II, which will feature appearances from 8 Ball & MJG, UGK, Trae and others. The first single from the album is expected to surface in December, and the album will be released in early 2008. Other 2008 releases from the Grind Time family are expected, including the debut from Little Rock, AR rapper SL Jones. After years of label uncertainty, Mike had this to say about the new partnership: “If you work hard and grind hard, it will pay off in the end! I was a worker, now I’m a boss!”

I also reported that Twista was still featured on the Atlantic Records site, so it couldn't have been true. Well, now confirmed by Atlantic Records, Twista IS STILL on the roster AS OF NOW. Keep in mind, there could be major executive decisions to drop him by the new year. Once again, HE IS ON THE LABEL STILL - AS OF NOVEMBER 15.

Lupe Rhyming from the perspective of a cheeseburger...strange

November 14, 2007, 2:05 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Rapper Lupe Fiasco embodies multiple characters and concepts on his sophomore album, "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool," due Dec. 18 via 1st and 15th/Atlantic.

Among the characters are Michael Young History, the Game (described as "a male personification of a hustler's damaging influences") and the Streets ("a female embodiment of an urban area's corrupt allure").

Throughout, dark production by Soundtrakk, UNKLE and Chris and Drop enhances the weighty themes, particularly on "Street on Fire" (about a burgeoning epidemic) and "Put You on Game." Among the few guests are Snoop Dogg, who turns up on "High Definition," while Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump serves as the producer of "Little Weapons."

A number of tracks diverge from the conceptual theme, including "Gold Watch" and "Paris Tokyo," on which Fiasco longs for a simpler life atop a jazzy backing track with shades of A Tribe Called Quest. Perhaps the oddest song is "Gotta Eat," which is apparently written from the perspective of a cheeseburger and is rife with food/life metaphors.

Fiasco makes at least two allusions to quitting the music business after one more album, "L.U.P.N.," but he ends "The Cool" on an up-tempo note with "Go Baby Go." "Congratulations ladies, this one's for you," he says.

"The Cool" is the follow-up to last year's "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor," which spawned the Grammy-nominated single "Kick, Push."

Here is the track list for "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool":

Iesha Poem
"Free Chilly"
"Go Go Gadget Flow"
"The Coolest"
"Superstar" featuring Mathew Santos
"Paris Tokyo"
"High Definition" featuring Snoop Dogg and Pooh Bear
"Little Weapon"
"Hip-Hop Saved My Life" featuring Nikki Jean
"Gold Watch"
"Street on Fire" featuring Mathew Santos
"Hello Goodbye"
"Gotta Eat"
"Dumb It Down" featuring Gemini and Graham Burris
"The Die" featuring Gemini
"Put You on Game"
"Fighters" featuring Mathew Santos
"Go Baby Go"

Pete Rock Speaks on how Beats are Weak these days

In the summer of 1987, E-mu Systems released the SP-1200, a drum machine and sampler designed for dance-music producers. An update of a previous model known as the SP-12, the souped-up edition allowed for the recording and manipulation of a 10.07-second sample with gritty 12-bit sound quality—now you could craft a complete instrumental on one portable machine.
Just as the Stradivarius or the Fender Stratocaster were standard-bearers by which other instruments were judged, the SP-1200 quickly became the tool of choice for East Coast beat-makers during rap's so-called "Golden Age," a period during the late '80s and early '90s, when sampling laws were still being meted out in courtrooms. Such artists as Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, Gang Starr, Main Source, and the Notorious B.I.G. created classic joints over beats concocted on the SP-1200. The machine rose to such prominence that its strengths and weaknesses sculpted an entire era of music: The crunchy digitized drums, choppy segmented samples, and murky filtered basslines that characterize the vintage New York sound are all mechanisms of the machine.

Long ago toppled by more powerful equipment and computer-based production programs, the sampler continues to inspire enough cultish devotion that any prospective knob-twister still must shell out around $1,000 to go retro. We spoke with several of hip-hop's must celebrated veteran producers about their experiences with the SP-1200 over the last 20 years."

"When I first got the SP-1200—I think that was back in '87—I was going to sessions with my cousin Heavy D, and he was working with Marley Marl. I would just be looking around and looking at the stuff they had and looking at what he was doing. Eddie F had the drum machine, and he showed me how to work it. I basically studied the manual—read it beginning to end and learned it like that. I used it all day, every day. I never came outside—just woke up happy to have a piece of machinery that made music. I didn't give a damn about anything else once I got that drum machine."

"Everything that you ever heard from me back in the day was the SP-1200. That machine made "Reminisce" ["They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)"], "Straighten It Out," "Shut 'Em Down," "Jump Around." When I made "Reminisce"—I had friend of mine that passed away, and it was a shock to the community. I was kind of depressed when I made it. And to this day, I can't believe I made it through, the way I was feeling. I guess it was for my boy. When I found the record by Tom Scott, basically I just heard something incredible that touched me and made me cry. It had such a beautiful bassline, and I started with that first. I found some other sounds and then heard some sax in there and used that. Next thing you know, I have a beautiful beat made. When I mixed the song down, I had Charlie Brown from Leaders of the New School in the session with me, and we all just started crying."

"I used the MPC [a technologically superior sampler line first introduced in 1988] on Soul Survivor II. That was kind of the beginning of using it. I thought it had a thinner sound than the SP, but it had way more sample time—like three minutes. So, can't beat that. I got hundreds of beats on the SP-1200, but I like the MPC. I'm really starting to get in the midst of it now."

Black Mafia Family (BMF) Judgment Day Coming

Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory had a certain style of doing things: way over the top.

When he traveled, his entourage numbered in the dozens. When he threw parties, he stocked them with high-priced champagne, ice sculptures and zoo animals, and enough eye candy to cause a stomachache. Inside the sprawling DeKalb County home where investigators say he lived, the walls were hung with framed photos of mob boss John Gotti and fictitious drug lord Tony Montana. One of his alleged associates – who's now a convicted cocaine dealer serving a life sentence – was Mayor Shirley Franklin's son-in-law.

Even some of the crimes of which Meech was suspected (though never indicted) have been of mythic proportions: the 1997 murder of a federal witness the day after the witness was released from custody, the 2003 death of Sean "Diddy" Combs' former bodyguard in a gun battle behind a Buckhead club.

But perhaps the most outsized of all is Meech's reputation – whether legit or not – as a ruthless yet magnanimous don, one who frightened his enemies and lavished generous rewards on his friends. His defense team will try to deconstruct that image, but one thing can't be disputed: No matter what the occasion, Meech did it big.

His federal trial, scheduled to begin Nov. 26 in Detroit, will be no exception.

Court documents filed by the prosecution allege that with Flenory and his younger brother at the helm, the organization they created – the Black Mafia Family – was one of the country's most prodigious cocaine rings. (Meech and his alleged criminal enterprise were the subject of a three-part series published last year by CL.) BMF is believed to have moved thousands of kilos of coke each month and laundered more than a quarter of a billion dollars in drug proceeds. Along the way, the organization was aided by a strict code of silence that blanketed crew members – at least for a time.

In an attempt to prove a "historical conspiracy" that dates back to the late '80s, the government has amassed more than 11,000 pages of evidence – an unusual amount of documentation, according to Drew Findling, an Atlanta-based attorney who represents Meech.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- A man who allegedly was fleeing police was attacked and killed by an alligator in a pond, Local 10 reported.

Miccosukee police, assisted by Sweetwater canine units, responded to a call on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation about vehicles being broken into.

Local 10's Todd Tongen said police captured one man, but another fled on foot and dove into a retention pond. Signs warned of the danger of live alligators in the pond behind the casino and hotel.

screamed but then disappeared under the water.

The alligator and another smaller one were later trapped and brought to All American Gator in Pembroke Park.

Local 10 learned the larger alligator was well known on the reservation and employees had nicknamed it Poncho.

If an alligator either digests or kills a person it's a state law through Florida Fish and Wildlife that it be destroyed, so the alligator will be put in an incinerator or be buried, Tongen reported.

All American Gator Owner Brian Wood said he's been told to keep the alligator in storage until the Miami-Dade medical examiner can inspect the reptile.

"Some gators have a nasty disposition and he was a nasty gator. He seemed to have no fear of people which indicates that he was fed," said Wood.

The body was recovered Friday by divers 50 feet below at the bottom of the lake.

Local 10 learned the man was bitten on the head several times. Miccosukee police issued a no comment statement when Local 10 inquired about the victim's identity.
